Hey Seattle!

Another meetup? This time, let's do Ethiopian. Queen Sheba has been suggested as the restaurant of choice.

So, when do we want to do this? Ideas?

P.S. OK to invite the MeChatters?

When when when? Ooh I want to come!
I have been here for two years now and have not managed to make it to Ethiopian food yet. I'm wasting away (spiritually, I guess, and taste-bud-ly, not physically)!

MeChatters? Sure! More the merrier.

So - date ideas? I'm not available Sept 23-25, but the rest of the time is free.

You think you have it bad? I've lived nearish Seattle for nineteen years and still haven't gotten around to having Ethiopian food yet.

I keep meaning to make it up to Seattle for a meet (since I don't think anyone would really want to come down to Olympia for one (although that might work sometime for a combined Port Land/Seattle get together...)) and Sept. 23-25 would have been fabulous. Whatever people decide, I'll try and make it, but I can't make any promises.

Not available 9/17, 9/21, 9/23-25, or 10/2.

I won't be coming from GA, but to those of you who haven't had Ethiopian food yet, it is fantastic. My wife turned me on to it last year on a trip to Houston.

I'm in town next Saturday.

I'm going to the Rollergirls Saturday night. Lunchtime would work, though.

How about Sunday, September 25th? 7 pmish?

I'll be at Foolscap Con in Bellevue, but it'll be wrapping down by Sun afternoon. I can easily make time for Ethiopian food by Sun evening.

Loves ethiopian. Will be there.

Will be driving back from Eastern Washington on the 25th and probably not fit for human company.

I have to grab some stuff at IKEA later this month, so I'd be up for it as well.

*faints*

Dear Leader will be there!

If the 25th will not work, please suggest other dates/times. I'm open to most, aside from the dates I mentioned before. Sat, 10/1 would also work for me, but maybe not for others.

So: Sun, 9/25, or Sat, 10/1? Those seem to be the options that fit into most people's schedules, of those of us that have problem schedules. (Really - that made sense in my head.)

I'd go for Sat. 10/1.

10/1 works for moi.

OK - say Saturday, 10/1, 5pm?

Queen Sheba?

Be there, or be kifto.

Phooey. I just sent out a buttload of evites to an event I'm hosting on 10/1, until 7 pm.

Have fun, everyone...

Although I'm a food wimp, I'll do my best to get to this meetup. Hey, I can always stop in at McD's first, eh?

Do they have booze there or what? I cna't imagine a meetup w/o beer, frankly.
posted by tristeza at 9:28 AM on September 14, 2005

Tris - According to the Seattle Weekly, Queen Sheba has beer and wine.

Pfui. I won't be there...

Just out of curiosity, what is Ethiopian food like?
posted by kindall at 5:53 PM on September 14, 2005

Spicy, robust, tangy...

Go here!

I will once again be tending bar that evening, which means I offer myself as pre-funk purveyor of libations. There are many here that know of the locale of which I speak.

From black8's link:

But it is not a "tablecloth" at all. It is the Injera, the sourdough pancake

Okay, it's on.

deborah: if you must, there is a Dick's just around the corner. But the Ethiopian food is supremely delish.

The beers I favor here are Moretti's.

FWIW, I have mild concerns about the check-split, as this food is so much about the sharing, and the restaurant may be a bit freaked by an unspecified number of large group attendees.

Suggestions?

I've actually become a little bit more adventuresome, mwhybark. I even tried Vietnamese food earlier this year (and enjoyed it!). It really sucks being so picky food-wise.

I just hope I can make it this time - the mister is going in for minor surgery on the 27th.

Damn, I'm going to be in Michigan at a wedding on 10/1.

For those that haven't eaten ethiopian before here is a quick primer posted on lifehacker today.

warbaby and freshgroundpepper: let's do everything we can to make sure this meetup does not take place.
posted by agropyron at 3:38 PM on September 15, 2005

mwhybark - would it be hard to split the entire bill by the number who show up, and everyone shares the dishes? You really only order Ethiopian family-style, right? He who gets a beer kicks in a couple bucks more.

Tristeza's solution makes sense to me, as well. So long as we assume people will be honest.

I'm just wondering if jojoinjera will show up.
posted by matildaben at 11:32 AM on September 16, 2005

I was wondering about splitting the bill, and tristeza's solution is good but does not necessarily take vegetarians into account ... maybe two plates & two bills, so we veggies can do our silly no-food-touching thing?
Or is it just me?
