On any given week there's someone pissing about the degeneration of quality or civility on MetaFilter/the Internet/the World. As far as I'm concerned if there's one post like this for every 10,000 assclown postings I will still consider there to be more signal than noise. Thanks to you, paulsc, and every other person who's contributed their personal story on AskMe and made my life richer in doing so. There have been many.

Yep, good stuff.

(I don't go there enough to know for sure, but it strikes me that there is more on AskMe deserving this sort of commendation than there is on MetaFilter proper.)

Paulsc's comments over the past few weeks have been consistently outstanding, as his ratio of answers to best answers demonstrates. What he has to say is thoughtful, polite, and to the point.

And I agree: AskMe is at its best when personal stories like this are revealed.

Paulsc shows us the important things in life. Very nice. The part that I like is that his point is not what a hero he is, but how surprised he was to find not only that he could do this wonderful thing, but how rewarding it was for him as a person.

More kudos for paulsc. It's rare and happy when I remember a new user because of the consistently great/funny/informative/thoughtful posts they make.

For more great AskMe comments, don't forget about this pony mathowie made for me a while back (and which he has promised to upgrade in terms of functionality later).

As someone who's going through the same thing...albeit longer (going on 3 years) and more drawn out (Alzheimer's and heart failure) Paul's story gives me comfort and strength some days I cannot manage to give myself. So thank you.
