Personal Vendetta Filter: dhoyt links to a comment amberglow made yesterday on Metachat. In doing so, dhoyt continues to insist on taking shots at members on his shit list in threads where they have made no comment whatsoever. This penchant for personal attacks is getting sick. All too often, he uses this place as a sort of personal emotional toxic waste dump where he can vent some jealousy, spite and malice at whoever is on his shit list du jour. This particular time his little chickenshit cheapshot was just a little too obsessive-compulsive over-the-top.

amberglow is either enroute to Paris or there already. Linking to a comment in this thread to make amberglow look bad, when amberglow can make no remark or response to dhoyt's passive-aggressive sliming, is taking cheap shots to a whole new level. This is just wrong.
\
It adds nothing but more ill will--and dhoyt is already way over his quota when it comes to expressing ill will towards people personally here.

Forget amberglow. This is about dhoyt constantly taking shots at people who are not commenting in a thread where said shot is made--and worse, here tonight, getting a lick in on someone who can not be notified, who is unlilely to see said uncalled for personal attack and, therefore, who can not respond. This is a new low.

But I do like him, as much as I like amberglow. Both are good people. I think dhoyt's temper is of a harmless but bristly Al Bundy heat. Just let him bitch about selling shoes and it's all fine. Or at least that's always been my impression.

Scarabic made that comment in June 11, 2004, Krrrlson. That is nearly a year and a half ago. Can you link to any recent comments which scarabic has made about you, Krrrlson ? Is there a pattern where he keeps taking shots at you ? There is a difference between an ongoing grudge and something someone said about you a year and a half ago.

Yeah, Krrrlson, that may have been time to step away, too. I'm not saying I only ever point out someone's mistake when it's one I've never made myself. I know, that's a shocking admission on MetaFilter, where we're all perfect and all of our arguments are all supposed to be internally consistent with each other and collectively unassailable forever.

But in the particular case you link, part of it was that I took in the linked content with a grimace of disgust but knew you would articulate why better than I, because I've seen you take down anti-Jew foolios before, with sometimes arguable but increasingly good judgment over time (earlier this week, for example) whereas I do better with racist foolios from the Zionist side of the fence.

I'm disappointed you saw it as a swipe when it was intended as something of an homage. People are often "paged" to threads which touch on a subject where they have shown interest or facility in the past. It's a pretty well-established practice.

I'm sorry can someone explain to me what's going on here (as an outside observer). We have in a thread about the Parisian riots the following comment:

By the by: Two of our most popular MeFites are in Paris right now cheering on the rioters. Wish 'em luck.
posted by dhoyt at 6:07 PM CST on November 5 [!]

Then that links to a comment in the metachat thread:

(i think i'll cheer them on if they come downtown, actually)
posted by amberglow 04 November | 00:28

Okay so what's the deal? It doesn't sound ultra-inflammatory. No one seriously thinks amberglow is going to go cheer on rioters, right? Maybe I don't know amberglow well enough (he rarely calls anymore) but an American cheering on Muslim protesters in Paris is just plain silly, an obviously sarcastic comment.

Then we have the dhoyt link, again I don't follow them enough to know if they hate each other, but he makes another sarcastic comment. This wasn't inflammatory or hate-filled. What does amberglow have to defend? "I wasn't cheering on protests," duh. He's a guest in the country.

What's the deal here, there has to be a multitude of more vitrolic, inflammatory comments to chose. What's the purpose fo this thread? I may be totally clueless, so someone fill me in.

Why? I didn't mean it as an example of a particularly egregious comment, nor do I think dhoyt's recent one is. I don't think either merits a callout. "Someone mentioned me in a thread I never participated in! My webputation is tarnished! I can't even show my face at the country club anymore!!!" Come on, it's just not that serious.

Can you link to any recent comments which scarabic has made about you, Krrrlson ? Is there a pattern where he keeps taking shots at you ?

I only picked that comment because I knew it was an example of what you brought up and I didn't care enough to waste time looking for recent comments. Uh, just arriving here after a night out.

The comment was made about two seconds after I noticed the MeCha comment which I thought was definitely notable because a MeFite (two actually) were in Paris during the events, 'cheering it on' -- tongue in cheek obviously. So why is this controversial again? There was no personal attack in anything I wrote. If there's a vendetta at work here, I believe I'm on the receiving end of it, having had karl obsess over everything I've done or said for 5 years now.

It's totally strange, karl: you've got this problem with comments made about people not involved in threads and yet IN YOUR VERY OWN FUGGIN' THREAD here, dios is called out and you're totally silent on the matter. Can't imagine why that would be.

Someone needs to stop the vitriol at a time when they are not necessarily ahead, for it to start subsiding.

What's the incentive here, really? It seems like people who personally attack each other garner more attention and (if you're on the right side) adoring praise.

As far as I see it, people here are obsessed with being "celebrities" and well-known, for obviously ego-driven reasons. They'll get that attention any way they can earn it, positive or negative. And since negative attention is doubly reinforced around here (in-thread and a corresponding circle-jerk MeTa), it's not too surprising that we have so many "personalities" here.

I miss the days when people wanted jessamyn's job as admin. More and more people are interested in creating noise, instead of cleaning it up.

Well, this was my take on highsignal in highsignal's callout of Matteo on behalf of jenleigh..

Now, upon reflection, I am wondering if either Jennifer Tidwell aka Jennifer Hoyt is jenleigh--or just plain dhoyt.

So, highsignal makes 5 commentsand dhoyt makes 13--all concerning matteo-- to highsignal/dhoyt's post . That is so weird if it is true--dhoyt makes a call out post about matteo via a sockpuppet account over something matteo said about a personal acquaintance/friend/girlfriend/significant other/wife /sister/or just plain sockpuppet self and then makes 18 total comments between sockpuppet and self.

Besides the flat out dishonesty of the post--Newbie etiquette question, my ass--it is just plain creepy. And talk about having time on one's hands. That is a vendetta so beyond incestuous that it's downright extra-dimensional. The mind reels.

Here's an oldbie etiquette question: What The Fuck, dhoyt ?

Actually, I did not get an email from dhoyt from highsignal's email. I did get one from dhoyt signed Darren, however.

Since I just got one from a Jennifer Leigh , I thought it would be interesting to forward that one and any I got from any Darren who might happen to write to me to a non-member friend of mine who knows about stuff like reverse DNS, IP tracing and such. And guess what--Darren just now wrote me.

I have no idea if Jennifer Tidwell and Jennifer Leigh are the same person but I am inclined to think that dhoyt and highsignal are. But only they, Matt and Jessamyn know for sure and know whether highsignal's callout of Matteo was made by a Darren other than Hoyt. If it was a sockpuppet callout, well, that is one for the books.

dhoyt is not Karl Potente. I suspect he is highsignal.

My name is on my profile. That is my real name. If you Google my real name and the city where I live, you find me. (I have a 4th cousin from Buffalo with the same first name who has it for a domain name)I listed my real name when I joined. In fact, I would have chosen Karl as my real name but--ironically--dhoyt owned that name at the time. I sometimes regret using my real name and can understand why some people choose to be anonymous.

So, I told a lie just now to draw out dhoyt. Call me a liar and hypocrite for doing so.

But, bottom line, there is one very real difference between dhoyt and I:

I am who I say I am.

I have used no aliases nor have I made any phony ass sock puppet callouts of someone with whom I have had a long running feud. There will always be that difference between us.
