Folks, how about an LA meetup? November 8, 2005 8:15 PM   Subscribe

I've been patiently waiting for someone to suggest an LA meetup since I moved here a couple months ago, but I guess if something's worth doing it's worth doing yourself. Thus:

Folks, how about an LA meetup?

Date/time/location dependent, I may-or-may not be up for it :) Friday or Saturday early-evenings are best, but I have to drive in from eastern LA. I'm also Very Unfashionable...

I'm game. I'm in Brea, muddgirl, so we could probably carpool if need be (I assume you're in Claremont?).

Sure, I'd certainly be up for another meetup soon -- suggest a date and location in the next week or two and let's see the response. Week of Thanksgiving is generally awful, for obvious reasons. Location-wise, I'd recommend something vaguely centralized; Thousand Oaks or Long Beach, for example, are likely to be out of the running. Just about anywhere in L.A. proper between downtown and Santa Monica will work for me, and I'll also go into the Valley around Studio City/North Hollywood, as well as into Pasadena. (Others' mileage may vary, though.)

I'm Valley Scum, so of course I'd be up to it. Any excuse to complain about The Traffic sits well with me & my ilk.

All right, how about Saturday evening, Nov. 19th? Centrally located sounds good to me too, since that's where I am. As far as exact location, maybe those more familiar with the landscape can make suggestions?

The 19th isn't great for me (Saturday evenings in general are pretty busy for me already), but if it's good for other folks, enjoy!

Location-wise, bars can be pretty tricky on Saturday nights in central-ish LA neighborhoods, at least for the ones I'm thinking of, as they tend to be pretty packed and quite loud. (A place like Tom Bergin's would be great during the week for a meetup, for example, but completely impossible on a Friday or Saturday.) But maybe there are some I'm not thinking of that would be okay, though (for example, anyone know how busy the Bounty gets on the weekend?).

Alternatively, I can think of some low-key, divey places up in the Valley that would probably be all right, too -- The Roost in Glendale (just past Los Feliz, actually) and the Fire Fox in N. Hollywood come to mind, though they might get just as packed on the weekends.

Oh, good point about the weekends being busy. (See, this is why I shouldn't be the one organizing this.) How about Wed. the 16th, Thurs. the 17th, or Mon. the 21st?

Dammit, less people are replying than I'd hoped. I should've posted in ALL CAPS or something.

Any of those nights works for me! And yeah, fellow LA MeFites: STEP UP!! Come on!

I might be able to make it although the 20th through the end of November would be bad for me.

I could tentatively make the 17th and 21st. *crosses fingers*

I will try to make any weekday night, depending on location :)

It looks like the 17th is the most friendly day so far... I will leave the location decision up to those who know where the cool hangouts are...

The 17th sounds good, and I'll second Scody's call on the Roost & Tom Bergin's. Anyone else got an idea?

Unless anyone else feels really strongly about it, shall we say Tom Bergin's on Thursday the 17th starting around 7:00? (There's food to be had there as well, for those who are hungry, and a parking lot.) Bergin's is on Fairfax about 1.5 blocks south of Wilshire.

Sounds good to me! I'll try to remember to post a reminder thread close to the date.
