Will the search feature be coming back any time? December 11, 2005 3:48 AM Subscribe
Ever since MeFi's search feature went away and it now lets you search google or yahoo, I'm having trouble finding past posts I'm looking for. Right now I'm looking for a post from within the last month or so where you could enter a URL into this website and it would give you a bunch of feedback on how good/bad it was, etc..
Will the search feature be coming back any time? Google/yahoo don't seem to order by date, and seem to mix in all sorts of stuff that clouds up my search. I loved being able to restrict my search to "within the last month", etc...

Another vote for the return of the built-in site search. It is almost impossible to find anything specific given the unstructured result sets returned by Yahoo/Google.
Pretty please?

I will add my bongo to the drum circle. SQL dumps of comments and posts would be great.

mathowie's working on it apparently. it's been longer than a week, sure, but I think we can rest well knowing the issue is being addressed.
meantime, you are weak! beef up your search-engine-of-choice fu.

I've been thinking of just bringing back a link search. So put in a full URL or part-URL and it will search old posts (not comments) for the URL, mostly to prevent double-posts.
I wonder what format a db dump should be in. I wouldn't be against providing it, though I'd probably have to put some terms on it so some spammer doesn't use the db output for some google adsense link farm.

I still think that using Google Sitemaps would be the best solution.

A link search would not have helped me in this instance, mathowie. I wanted to find that Silktide site that was found for me right away (thanks!!!) ...
I couldn't remember what the site was called, and google-fu was not helpful using terms like: test website usability
Even if you restrict MeFi searches to only the last 4 weeks, I think a lot of us would be content. Is it that intensive?
