i thought everyone in LA was a movie star anyway. wouldn't it be more of an artistic challenge to make you all look like ... casts around for something sufficiently horible ... computer science students?
on the other hand, i guess film stars score higher on the boobies rating.
hmm. artistic integrity or boobies? which will the man choose?
i guess boobies.

Watch it, Andrew Cooke, some of us actually were Computer Science students!
I gotta get back to preening, I don't have time for this.
Midweek is better for me, and I now work in The Valley so Hollywood or Downtown would be great. Downtown, but only for the latter, I like Golden Gopher and The Broadway Bar. Boardners in Hollywood has food and drink.
Just perusing the Google MetaEarth - scody, you really live all the way down there?

Okay, so in the midst of all the boobie talk (and who doesn't love to talk about the boobies?), we've got a midweek suggestion (so say next Tues. or Wed. -- Thursday is probably out for me) from mzurer for either downtown or Hollywood. I like Boardner's a lot, too; street parking can be dicey, but if others are willing to pay to park in a lot, it's cool with me.
Any other LA folks want to chime in?

Whoa, I never noticed that! That's insane. Nope, I don't like anywhere near 259th Street -- more like 8th. I suppose I should figure out how to correct that.
*stifles impulse to ask for a return to zip codes for USian MeFites*

actually now you can enter in your exact coordinates, if you so choose.
By the way, is there any way to find out the exact longitude and latitude from looking at Google maps? Like can I click somewhere and have it give me coordinates?

Golden Gopher is awesome, but I've only ever been to Boardners' for Bar Sinister. Either way, food + drink + mefites sounds like a good time.
Tuesday the 10th and Wednesday the 11th work for me.

Ahh! I'm in Massachusetts till the 18th! Looking forward to the pics, and maybe some sunny day I'll make it out to one of these.

Type an address into google maps, click the link this page link. Lat and Long get added to the query string of the URL that is generated. ll=x,y
I'll try to make it to the party. Wednesday looks better for me next week, but either is probably workable.

Let's call Wednesday (the 11th), then. I've never been to Golden Gopher, but with two thumbs up from mzurer and Space Kitty, I'd be foolish not to want to give it a try. Does Golden Gopher downtown work for others? And does GG serve food?

I say Wednsesay is settled!
The Golden Gopher does not serve food, but you can bring in, and they have a menu book of nearby places that deliver... I see I edited my earlier post into confusion on that point. At some stage it was clear. I wish I had a good suggestion for downtown with the food and the drink ensemble.

Yeah, I don't have any good downtown food-and-drink suggestions either, as I'm there so rarely. I'm fine with everyone sort of winging it as far as food goes, though. So Wed. the 11th at the Golden Gopher it is. Does 7:00 sound like a good time to start?

Since I'm procastinating with unpacking, I decided to do a bit of research. Chowhounds has few happy hour + food recommendations for downtown beyond the ubiquitous McCormick and Schmick's, Nick & Stef's and Ciudad.
Golden Gopher is lots of fun, keeping two things in mind: 1) last time I went there with a group it took forever to order food because nobody could decide between pizza and chinese, and 2) it's street parking only in a sketchy part of town.
That being said, the place gets good reviews.
Did anybody say what time? Happy hour's from 5-8.

The happy hour at McCormick and Schmick's is actually quite good. I think much less of Ciudad's, and have never been to Nick & Stef's. That being said, I am unlikely to make it by happy hour anyway, so that's not as much as a consideration for me.

7:00? 8:00? Personally, I'm more likely to eat after work first, then arrive around 8-ish.

Why do I feel like the snake oil being sold?
For the record, I make no guarantees of being able to make anyone look like amovie star, or else I'd already be living the high life as a self-created one myself. But I do try to take a good photo here and there.
hmm. artistic integrity or boobies? which will the man choose?
Well, it's harder to grope artistic integrity.
Space Kitty -- bring the monkeys!

My boyfriend might be joining us -- he doesn't have boobies, either, but he does have pretty nice pecs. Maybe some good chest-pics for our man-lovin'-MeFites out there might be a fair change of pace, no?
