Miguel was scared off? When did this happen? Wasn't he just here yesterday?

O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but my sworn love,
And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.

just a little note here, in the interest of generally pissing everyone off:

Wherefore means "why" not "where".

as in "why is your name Montague?" not "where are you, sweetcheeks?"

Someone recommended he take a day or so off. He's probably doing that. If he returns with perspective, this will be a better place.
posted by frykitty at 4:10 PM on October 18, 2001

Who's perspective exactly? He seemed to have his own and it was pretty unique (as evidenced by the fact that this MeTa thread exists).

Hey, eyeballkid, how did you get Miguel to e-mail you back? I sent him a nice message the other day about my upcoming visit to Portugal, and he didn't write back...
But then, I've noticed I'm a bit of a thread killer around here, maybe he didn't want to respond (sniff...)

The not official Page of Miguel Esteves Cardoso. You gotta love that cigar...

remember people 'The Love is Fodido':

"a book that could not have another heading, that only can offend the people who not to read it" Miguel Esteves Cardoso

Whether it's the great man himself or not. It's classic, classic I say. I propose that MeFi turns into PortugeseFansiteFi.

Besides, I need someone to be more annoying than me.

Buck up lil' camper!
posted by katexmcfly at 9:01 PM on October 18, 2001

It was the spelling thread that pushed it over the line for me.

"Since I need to post more than anyone else, it's especially annoying to me when I have to read so much bad spelling. Could we please force people to spell better?"

Previous to my pissing on him in that thread he'd sent me a very chatty email explaining how much he liked my posts (huh?) and a little story about a trip he'd taken with his wife to San Diego. He invited me to visit if I ever made it to Portugal. [rolls eyes]

A little voice inside me said, "For the love of Christ, do NOT encourage this guy!" So I didn't email back.

Yes. I lack compassion. It's a defect I have. I suspect it could be cured by medication, but I've decided to soldier on as is.

"He loved you! LOVED YOU!"

Jumping up and down and waving your arms in such a manner is typically understood to be a desperate plea for friends, not love.

Having said that, I miss the lug, and his Kudzu like posting style. If I ever get my email working again (3 days?) I'll send him a nice note saying so.

Thanks a lot, man.
posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 3:10 AM on October 19, 2001

From his site - The intervention of Miguel Esteves Cardoso in the domain of the arts also includes the authorship of letters for songs as "the thistles and them you chat"

It's probably the Google translation, but I can't help thinking of Clint Eastwood in Paint Your Wagon.
And unfortunately he's now covered in....that stuff, thanks dong-resin.

Remember Popeye, a recent cartoon character: "I am waddayam"; just like you. It's what makes Meta, er, physics great.

P.S. Please try to forget my ugly mug - else I demand to see all of yours, as it would only be fair. Here in Lisbon(how you all miss the old city, right? ;-)when we see a truly disturbing facies we shout "I.I." to warn whoever we're with. It stands for "instant imprint" - those images so shocking they burn into one's tenderest synapses and remain there until death. (It's pronounced "ai ai"; but not in a Mexican way, please!)

And now I'm off to the front page to cash in all those 24-hour posts I've acummulated! Whee!
