"You already flagged this post." Uh, no I didn't. →

I clicked on the "flag this post" submit button on the flag page before actually selecting something from the drop-down menu. Now it thinks I have flagged the post when I haven't. Maybe there's a reason we can't change our flags, but in this case, it's silly. The last flag you make should supercede all previous flags. If people changing their flags after having them viewed by the mods is a problem, maybe there's a way to freeze a flag once viewed by an admin?

it's no biggie if you didn't get to choose the exact flag reason you wanted to, we'll see it and judge if it's worth acting on.

Damnit. I want custom flags. Tagged flags? Tagflags? Tlags!

It's just a form-submit, right? Can we please edit them? Can I make one that says "KHAAAAAAAN!"?

Maybe bandwidth thieving putzes have their flagging rights revoked ;)

We see the flag and next to the reason it says "pick a reason" instead of any of the other choices. It happens about once a week. I think the superceding thing would be nice (but probably too much server work for too little result) because sometimes people will flag the same post a bunch of times.

loquacious: no.

I flag everything as "noise" (except, of course, for those few occasions when I use the "excellent" flag). I've always figured it doesn't really make any difference which we choose—the point is simply to alert Matt and Jess that there's bad stuff happening there.

Of course things that just need fixing should be tagged "other."

Flagged as indecisive.

My suggestions for the flags:

Rename other to "bad post/comment".
Add "self-link".
Delete "offensive content", "noise", "derail", and "it breaks the guidelines".

Then people wouldn't agonize over which of the flags to use, when it doesn't even matter.

How do you know if I thought something offensive was fantastic? The particular comment was this one, but was I flagging it as awesome, or as offensive for the dog's anus part? It's obvious from the way I asked, but would you have known otherwise?

I've always figured it doesn't really make any difference which we choose...

Jessamyn once commented to the effect that she took "it breaks the guidelines" more seriously than the rest — so when I flag, that's the one I use. Seems to me it's a catch-all for the rest, anyway.
