D.C. Meetup May 30, 2006 8:48 AM   Subscribe

Any D.C.-area mefites interested in using the local opening of An Inconvenient Truth as an excuse for a meetup, say, the weekend after next?

I've never been to one of these before, and thought that this would be a good chance to find if you chuckleheads really are as unhinged as you seem (besides, Lawrence Lessig said to).The film opens in two theaters in D.C. on Friday but I imagine that it will be difficult to get tickets (in D.C. in particular) for the first weekend. Of the two theaters listed, the Georgetown Loews seems to be the only one that tickets will be able to be purchased online for. Anyway, anyone interested/have a date preference?

I'd be up for it.

And Georgetown is always a nice place to hang out.

I'm a MeFi meetup virgin, but I'd be up for it.

Great... as a working plan, would early Saturday evening (June 9th) work... say 7ish, so as to hopefully leave time for hijinks afterwards?

Spending time strangers from the internet in a darkened theater? Sure, why not.

I might could come, especially if IIHAA lets me sit next to him.

Many meetups have experienced the certain participant who does not want to be photographed/named etc. In the case of D.C., I would suggest extreme measures like a camera ban, etc. Express such conditions ahead of time for maximum effect.

Alternatively, we could simply all wear Richard Nixon masks.

And if the D.C. police hassle us about it, we'll just tell them we aren't crooks.

Count me in. Especially if I can sit on the other side of IHAAA.

I'll find out the showtimes for the 10th (Saturday) this weekend (Loews seems to only publicize showtimes up to one week in advance), and will post a reminder thread late next week. We can pick a place to meet before then; I'll need suggestions, since I don't know DC that well myself.

I may be up for the meetup, though I'll skip the movie. I'm all on board with the message of the movie, don't get me wrong; I just know I'll leave the theater majorly pissed off.

There are plenty of ritzy places to eat and drink around there. I don't know too much about places for shlubs like us, though. Moby Dick Kebab is fantastic and cheap, but there's not much of an atmosphere there, and I don't know (but doubt) that they serve alcohol. Anyone have a suggestion?

If we're going for easy and inexpensive, Uno's Pizza on the corner of M and Wisconson is probably the way to go.

I'll be there! What about Au Pied Bistro on M st?

Hey, the showtimes are posted now (well, they were ten minutes ago, before Fandango died). The Georgetown Loews (at K Street and Wisconsin Ave) listed 6:10, 7:40 and 8:40. I'm guessing that 6:10 is best, so that the meetup proper is still at a decent time. If a later time would work better for anyone, say so- I'm posting a reminder thread late Wednesday. As for a location, Uno's seems like a suitable spot for subsequent shennanigans; its a bit closer than Au Pied Bistro. The film is billed at 1 hour 35 minutes, so if you throw in 15 minutes of previews, it should let out at 8 on the dot, at which point we can descend en masse upon the unsuspecting people of Unos and suspecting-but-still-unprepared mrmoonpie. Does this work for people?

Oh, and the date is Saturday the 10th. I mistakenly called it the 9th above.
