Now, back to the comments...

Anyone else that needs calling to arms? MetaFilter is way too earnest and Kidushin-like at the moment and is in dire need of a few welcome, dissonant, intelligent jolts.
Who do you miss right now? Let's call them all out to play before petrification sets in!

I miss content. I miss the time when people didn't feel the need to create a new MeTa post every day just to see their names on the screen. Get a life.

Can someone please justify this thread to me? I'm really curious. What is the point?

I find the conversion of MetaTalk into a Cardoso message board to be rude and selfish.

Hey Miguel, the miguelcardoso.com domain is still available if'n you were wanting your own forum. It seems weird that comment after comment about your wasting MetaTalk bandwidth would go ignored. Are you bucking the system or just not paying attention?

ygy6y6 and rodii: this is a thread. Not MetaTalk. It's a "Who do you miss? thread". There are people out there who we'd like to be here. Don't you miss anybody?

Miss? Not everyone posts 12 times a day, Miguel. I've seen half those people you mention post within the last few days.

This thread is a subset of MetaTalk.

People who aren't posting on MetaFilter at this moment haven't necessarily disappeared from the planet.

If you miss somebody, email them. If they aren't posting, it's not up to you to do a roll call.

If you can't hear me, raise your hand.

I would be happy to miss you, because that would mean you go away once in a while.

this is a thread. Not MetaTalk.

I don't even know what this would mean. This forum, in which your worthless thread is housed, is MetaTalk. You're treating it as your personal playpen. Your prattling is undermining the usefulness of MeTa as a resource for discussing MetaFilter, as well as getting on people's nerves. You have been told so in many ways, subtle and unsubtle. Some people have professed admiration, and I imagine at least some of them are not laughing behind their hands when they say so. But, when this many people are griping that you're too big a presence here, you should take a hint.

I mean, what is the point of namechecking some random sample of people here? Everyone has his or her own list of favorite posters we could name, but what would be the point? Everyone who's not on your list gets to feel ignored, and the whole thing becomes an exercise in "look who I like." It doesn't contribute anything of value to the site. It's masturbation.

I would like to take this opportunity to disagree with rodii. However, I can't, because the only thing I find at all disputable in what he said is the horribly, horribly mistaken implication that there's something wrong with masturbation.

Or did you mean public masturbation. Oh. That's not good either, is it?

Uh...

Hmm...ph.

This is tricky. rodii, ice, Karl, y6, et al., I agree with you that this is an unfortunate and improper MeTa thread. I think MC, if I guess correctly, was missing some of the banter that arises (spontaneously) in some threads, and hoped that, by calling out some of the banterers, he could get it started again. I am sure he did not mean to imply that he feels MeFi and MeTa are his own personal playground; rather (I think) he meant to say that he appreciates and wishes to encourage one type of behavior that regularly occurs here.

That said, miguelcardoso, you must appreciate that a thread like this one does make it appear to many people as if you think that MeFi is your own personal playground. Whether or not you in fact feel that way (and I don't at all think you do) matters less than the apparent fact that it appears that way to enough people. I also very much enjoy the remarks (and virtual cameraderie) of those MeFites you named, and look forward to them, whenever and wherever they should next appear. But they are all the more valuable for their unexpectedness and unpredictability, and for their melding in with the MeFi community as a whole. Singling them out is ill advised, it heightens our awareness of them and threatens to separate them artificially from the energy and beautiful chaos that makes this place so great. We are blessed that so rich an intellectual playground is so cherished by so many, but we must not harm that richness by elevating (deliberately or no) any one aspect of it above any other. It is a great virtue of this place that its diverse members appreciate its different aspects each in their own way. We must each express our appreciation of these aspects by encouraging them where they arise, and partaking ourselves, and then we must hope that those others who feel likewise, do likewise.

What the hell? Is it a good link? Not one was posted. Was it a good topic? Not one that was clearly presented that made much sense other than "I really have nothing to say, but I'll post anyways." Would it create worthwhile conversation? No, it would most likely lead to arguments, name calling and create topic drifts that hardly warrant a discussion.

Maybe present something worthwhile next time you have an urge to say, since posts like this are absolute crap.

brent - MeTa (oh, I just got that...) is not for links. MeFi is for links.

Irony: Miguel got the old-timey (what is his "old-timey," anyway? since August? I am disturbed) banter he wanted.

mattpfeff, as usual, came out on top -- best damn post I've seen for some length of time (arbitrary).
