This should be in projects.... October 7, 2006 1:24 PM Subscribe
In the midst of yet another FLP (funky little project)...I've got a small number of unlined moleskin notebooks with 60 pages each. Inside each one is instructions detailing how the recipient of the book should use one page (one or both sides) to be creative (words or art), and then pass it on to someone else who will also be creative and also pass it on. At the end of filling the book I've requested the book be sent back to me for scanning and hosting on the web, and assuming I get any back I will do so. MetaFilter has a goodly number of cool creative people, I'm hoping some of them (up to 4; the number of books I have unallocated) are interested. If so, post here (so I don't get overwhelmed) then drop me an email with mailing address? Contact info available via my personal page. More books will be available at a later date (once I order them). I (over) parenthesize (sp?) my sen(t)en(c)es.
I doubt I'd be any use, but I know someone who would almost certainly be into this.

Ok, I've got 5 now :) I was holding back one, but I'll let it go now. 5 books will be sent out this coming week.
I will order more books soon and another post here will be made! Thanks everyone for the interest!
Books will be going to (in order of the emails arriving in my mailbox):

This project sounds fun! If I buy one and start it on my own, can I have it sent to you when it's done? What size/type of moleskin are you using?

buriednexttoyou: That sounds fine. I'd prefer if I can keep it to the exact same type of book so that I can have an easier time formatting things when it's on the web.
The books are 13cmX21cm unlined 'Moleskin' books. I bought mine on eBay, where it was a helluvalot cheaper than direct from the company. Contact me when you get them and I'll send you a printable file that you can paste inside the front cover of the book with instructions, etc.

Kickstart, may I suggest the following change: For the others who posted or emailed, continue to do so in this thread. For those who lucked out to get in on the ground floor, feel free to either pass it on to a person you know or to someone who expressed interest in this thread.

Oh, cortex, if you don't pass that book along to me at the Portland meetup on 28th October, I will be very, very sad.
So sad, in fact, that I may spill beer on cmonkey again. You don't want to do that to cmonkey, do you?
fyi.

No way, man. You can't make me obey your 'rules'. You can't tell me how to be creative!

Cool project. Can we send a donation to help finance the book purchase? I'd love to do this, and I know exactly who I'd pass it along to next.

I've tried sending these sorts of things out myself in times past, and was just thinking recently about starting it up again... last time I tried there was much less web action to keep track of things, & I never got back the books I sent out. But it seemed to me that in the present age, you could really track the books the whole way, and also find a larger community of people really into it, etc...
which is all to say, I'm in too!

why not. Though if my experience with CD swapping is any indication I'll probably never see this notebook, and you'll never see any of them again.

I've just mailed out the 5 I promised (4 to the U.S. and one to Toronto). Sheesh, mailing to the U.S. is expensive ($2.99 per envelope). (this is not to guilt people, but I think I'll not do more than the upcoming 9 books, due to the expense of the books and the shipping)
Because of that, I urge people who are interested (and that's greater than the upcoming 9) to contact those above who are getting books and try to get them to send to you.
Ta!
