Tag Bug? November 19, 2006 3:02 PM   Subscribe

I notice on my recent FPP that there is a tag -- "ushmm" -- which I did not write/include. When I click on the "x" to delete it, it does not get deleted but returns this message: "Looks like you're trying to delete tags fromto the wrong post. Go." [sic]. Bug? Hack?

I note that the tag "ushmm" is an abbreviation for the "United States Holocaust Museum," but I did not include that tag in my FPP. As the posting author I can not remove it, as I can others. Someone else added it. Was it Matt or Jessamyn? If not, how is it possible for someone else to do so?

99.99% it was Matt or Jess, they do do this sometimes

I bet it was Hotmail.

That's like totally subverting the whole idea of tags man. We need real tags, tags for the people, by the people. Not these lame dictatorial meritocracy tags that only FPP authors and admins get to set.

Don't ask me where that weird square with a cross through it came from. Bloody crazy Apple computers with their Unicode interfaces.

ODiV -- you owe me a glass of wine and a new monitor Hotmail's the culprit, indeed!

jessamyn probably added it. I deleted it to see if it worked and it did.

Now all we need is for jessamyn to show up and say "im in ur mefi taggin ur posts" and we could close this thread.

Man, I wish we could tag others' FPPs. Then I could set up my RSS reader to filter out all FPPs tagged with "crap" and stop reading MetaFilter altogether.

im in ur mefi taggin ur posts!

Sorry about that. I know that arco works there and might want to chime in with something about the project you were referring to. I talked to him about it this summer and he was super excited. So, I added a tag that I thought it might help people find it.

Jess -- no problem.

I was, at first, taken aback by a tag being added to the FPP and originally thought that it might be related to what I had/have interpreted to be a "trolling comment" in the original thread.

Further research on my part found that the added tag had no relevance to any nefarious deed, but was indeed relevant (i.e usmmh = "United States Holocaust Memorial Museum"), hence my follow-on comment wherein I wondered if an admin had added it.

All remains copacetic and understood that admins can and will add relevant tags to FPPs.

I could have sworn the tag was put their fraudulently by the powerful, conspiring jewish lobby.

Can't we just draw a veil over these alleged tags and stop accusing Matt and Jess of things they obviously didn't do?

reklaw, when I saw your AskMe this morning, I was afeard. "computers & internet," it was tagged, and I trembled to contemplate its direction.

They're keywords, not tags.

They're keywords, not tags.

Good luck with that crusade.
