how many MeFites visit fark? January 1, 2002 4:24 PM Subscribe
I've noticed in a lot of recent threads a rather severe animosity towards our neighbors over at fark.com. Now obviously FARK is not exactly Mensa grade material, but I've found it is good for laugh and for entertaining bar-brawl style arguments. As someone who visits both MeFi and Fark daily I find they both provide nourishment for the opposing sides of my psyche, MeFi for my thoughtful, intellectual side and Fark for the mook within. Now I can't believe I'm alone in this. I'm just curious, just how many MeFites are also regular(or at least closet) Farkians?
ditto on popping over for the photoshopping, but what a bunch of yertas over there...
I likes it better here.

Actually, I think this old post of mine says it all about the MeFi/Fark sybiotic relationship.

Sometimes I want to watch Absolutely Fabulous. Sometimes I want to watch Drew Carey. I regard the quality of FP posts on MeFi and Fark in the same way. However, I think that the thread comments at Fark are largely the product of functional illiterates. On the plus side, Fark has more Boobies and less Scooby Doo Porn.

Fark is a very well-organized, amusing and constantly refreshed compendium of fun, information and, er, fun. The boobies and the photoshopping are dispensable, the comments are lazy and uninspired; but as a daily list of juvenile, spirited and freedom-loving ephemera, it is unrivalled.
Saying anything else would be hypocrisy, imo.

I venture over there about twice a week to see the photoshopping...
Right, and I read Hustler for the articles.

I like Fark too, and visit almost daily. I haven't noticed any animosity at all towards Farkers here at MeFi.

If you need to go to Fark to find links to look at pictures of women's breasts, then, my friend, I must opine that you suck at the internet.
(not that I...uhh...spend much time...uhh *cough*)

There are a few sites that MeFi occasionally puts itself in opposition to--free republic, slashdot, fark, plastic, memepool, yahoo!, ~meatfilter~. When someone says "hey, what is this, fark?", I think it's more of a way of defining the "tao of MeFi" than it is a real animosity. It's sort of the way a high school kid would say, I'm not a jock, I'm not a burnout, I'm not a punk, I'm not a geek... eventually you arrive at a (provisional) approximation of "me" but it takes a while.

My problem with fark is that it's UGLY. I mean dismal, yellow-type-on-blue-background, no-padding, banner-ad-riddled, icon-overloaded, arbitrarily-sized, disorganized, illegible, color-illiterate, monospaced, horizontal-ruled, animated-giffed UGLY. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

in response- I'm not trying to stir up trouble and I know stavros and rodii are just kidding around...but it was just something I thought of the other day when I introduced my buddy JakeExtreme(by the way, stavros he's still wondering what you thought of the comparison of you to Serj Tankian) to MeFi and Fark in the same day. Both of us dig both sites immensly to the point where our boss says "stop reading Metafilter and do some work" It just like I said in my old post reminded me of my high-school days when I was a card-carrying member of both the mullethead and braniac-elite-core crowd and truly got off on the sparks that flew when I introduced them to eachother.

It's good to see that I'm in good company (Fark number: 14676). The links are often pretty good. And I kind of like their design.

Count me in with the Farko-Mefi commuter crew. It makes for a nice world-view; a well-rounded wheel of Karma. I once compared the two to a tumbledown roadhouse bar versus a MENSA meeting; neither one would hold up well for me without the other over a long period of time. I get my stupids there and my smarts here.
'Sides which, I can say 'Boobies' there whenever I want.
