Don't Go Nuts February 8, 2002 1:52 PM   Subscribe

Yes, I know I have gone nuts on the Ronald Reagan thread. No I did not mean to. Yes I am calling myself out. Yes I have gone up on my meds. Yes the thread is too chatty. If Matt wants to pull the thread, he may.
You got a problem with that?

Normally I prefer to not post on my own links. I broke my own rule today, and now you see why i have the rule in the first place. So shut up already- I have spanked myself before you got the chance.

What about Metatalking your own posts to your own links and then commenting on your own MeTa of your own comments on your own link?

You think its fun to have scrambled brains? I am totally serious. You try being on Topomax for awhile.

I am totally serious, too, bunny. You are obviously aware that you went a little overboard in the Reagan thread. I'm just pointing out that it looks like you're just continuing that here. I tried to do so in a lightheated manner, but I'm not making fun of you.

I guess I need to add a breathelizer and blood workup to the posting page, if you're over the limits, you can't post.

In the vein of Sportsfilter, can we have DrunkFilter, where you can have incoherent ramblings after a long night out? I'd find it usefull.

By the way Bunnyfire, your posts in that thread are a tad disjointed and non-sequiterish, maybe, but don't really stand out as particularly BAD or anything. Besides, given that half the responses in the thread are nothing but one-line Reagan-bashing, and most of the other half are just discussion of Peggy Noonan, your posts melted perfectly into the morass.
posted by aaron at 3:55 PM on February 8, 2002

i totally agree with aaron. your comments aren't rabid or anything....don't worry about it.

talking about reagan is a refreshing change from bush/clinton/gore. perhaps we should all do some research and meet back here next week to talk about Hoover?

(circa 1896?) It is truly ironic and i often think perhaps Miller owned this book. then i wake and i see parisparmus is paris wqith henry miller, getting frida kahlo drunk. bunny I think you need to quit calling so much attention to your various mental illnesses. If it's something you're trying to work out, that's cool, but you're going overboard with prefacing every thread (including this one) with something about your mental illness. I for one don't think it's healthy for you. As others have noted, your comments are not insane-sounding, they're pretty normal-- except for the inordinate amount of time you spend talking about how crazy you are and what medications you take. I know I am not your doctor, but I realize you want to be honest about it, but we get it already.
posted by chaz at 1:01 AM on February 11, 2002

that's what happens when it starts to kick up. If you were to check my posts since i have been around you wouldn't see any thing about it till recently. That is because things were stable till recently. When i am hypomanic I type way too much and too stupid, and i think I am funnier than Robin Williams. And most if not all personal boundaries fly out the window.

then on a morning like today, when things are again settling down and i am a rational human like most of the planet, I get left with the debris i have made of my life while things were unsettled.

I wonder how much Matt would have to be bribed to do a bit of judicious deleting.....

But I still think d.r. should brush his teeth regardless.
posted by bunnyfire at 3:58 AM on February 11, 2002

Lest you think that this is directed entirely at bunnyfire, let me correct you right away: it is not.

I cannot tell you how many posts I have aborted right after hitting preview. Certainly, there are many more comments that I have left unsaid than those that I have committed to the archive. That's one reason that the "preview" button is there, because it allows us to take a look at what we wrote and consider whether it is good enough to be read by thousands of others.

Show some restraint. If you are too drunk/tired/high/low or otherwise impaired to post, then don't post. If you do not have the self-control to not post something that you will later regret, then don't even read MeFi that day. Do not ask Matt to pull a thread or a post and become your surrogate conscience.

Now this is directed at bunnyfire. Bunnyfire, out of personal experience, I understand that mental illness is a difficult thing with which to deal. However, it is not a crutch, nor is it a free pass on your actions. When you are having difficulty, you should avoid activities that are not helpful. If you are looking for MeFi to provide some sort of therapy (and I apologize if I am drawing an assumption), then this is a poor place to do it, simply because most of the folks here are not familiar with mental illness, and you will probably not get the support that you want. I know (as does everyone else here) that you frequent other forums to get this support, and that is a Good Thing.

I wish you the best.
posted by Avogadro at 5:27 AM on February 11, 2002

Nope, not looking for therapy here. (not THATcrazy.) Now, let me just correct a small misunderstanding, and we can all be happy. The previous week's postings were symptomatic of my illness. I do get my support elsewhere, and fine support it is, too. To ask a bipolar in a flareup to show restraint is ridiculous. to ask a bipolar in a flareup to take her meds or go have some icecream is a little more reasonable. Now that i am in my right mind so to speak, I can now set up my own strategy to prevent what just happened from happening again; I do that all the time in other areas in my life out of necessity.

I enjoy metafilter because like the rest of you I am a curious and intelligent individual, and this place feeds that place in my head....the part of me that ran nuts this week is only a small part of who i am, and as soon as i can wrestle that part back into the attic (don't worry: the attic is fully furnished, has cable and internet access) I should be able to blend back into the MeFi community without attracting undue attention.

But I still may make a wisecrack once in awhile.
