Special Snowflakes, all of us! March 3, 2010 11:44 PM Subscribe
I'm killdevil, and I'm a special snowflake. But I need a garment that can communicate my specialness to others. Any idea when the "Special Snowflake" and "Everyone Needs a Hug" t-shirts will be returning to the MeFi store? And/or new designs so exquisite that we'll be helpless not to tear off whatever we're wearing in order to wrap ourselves in 5 of them?
How about this, in order to help get rid of all the blue ones (and a few gray ones left) we'll mark everything down to $5/shirt tomorrow.

Dear Journal:
My insidious plan continues apace. Piece by piece I slowly compile the complete profile of mathowie, the man. Today I added this: his garage is twice as big as hundreds of custom tshirts.

I love my Metafilter t-shirts (both of them). I particularly like the second one I ordered because after I emailed mathowie that I had a change of address he replied that he was on his way to the post office but he would re-address it. Now that's customer service! On the other hand, hearing that he has a garage full of unsold t-shirts for an an indeterminate length of time sounds very inefficient and I would be willing to pay a higher price to alleviate this.

When you get around to the next batch, can you get some made up in all cotton? I was a little sad to find that my four new blue shirts were all cotton/poly mix. Vast men's sizes (at least 4XL) would be good too. Spending lots of time on mefi doesn't make for thin mefites.

I generally feel self-conscious about wearing t-shirts with ironic or clever slogans. (I used to have this xkcd shirt but committed the ultimate irony by never wearing it in public.) However I too have wished I could purchase a Special Snowflake shirt, and would wear it with pride. Or with snark. Or…whatever the appropriate attitude is, I assure you I'd have it.

Yes, girl-cut shirts would be wonderful. Big boobs + short neck + straight cut, crewneck t-shirt = very unflattering look. I still have my baby-doll style white t-shirt with the logo on it that I bought years ago but it was never good quality and it's getting past the point of being wearable.

If you aren't going to do shirts till summer, why not make this a project? Let everyone submit slogans, and we can vote. If you want to make it more fun, I'd happily pay a buck a vote, proceeds to go to charity (Haiti relief, Chili relief, Fiona's new pony). I really do want a special snowflake tee. all-cotton, cut for female people, pleeeaaase.

Get the blue one, the classic blue one.
You don't know how jealous I was that others had this shirt and I didn't! It was a weird quest for me. The gray ones are cool and all, but the blue seems so much metafilter to me from a branding perspective.
I wore it only a few times before I had to have a surgery. And that was the shirt I selected to wear to the hospital. They let me keep it on for about 10 minutes before putting me in one of those damn robes.
After the surgery I dressed fairly quickly in my regular clothes. My girlfriend took a picture of me with my iPhone and I love that you can so clearly see the shirt. That's what's in my profile. Photos of me without facial hair are uncommon, but it's still one of my favorites because it meant I lived!
One of the last things I did before going to the hospital was posting here. One of the first things I did, while still in the recovery room, was read people's responses. The shirt was so appropriate.
You're all wonderful.
