Backmasking? Backlinking? Backsliding? Backstabbing? Back massage?
Surely this is no coincidence - am I missing some hilarious in-joke here or is there a new MeFi policy whereby all front page posts must be self-referential and carry some allusion to regression? Personally I'd rather have the old, plain no-back Metafilter back.

It's been done before. There was, for instance, the amusing "rug rats", "cut a rug", "wearing a rug", "rug muncher" series. Usually these things are arranged by secret vote.

I guess I'm sort of guilty, having posted the third link. But I don't think you have to worry about it skylar, I'm sure all will go back to "normal".
No secret vote, just my curiousity at work. I actually learned something in the process, never occurred to me that "backsliding" had such a religious context. Pretty interesting (at least to me).

I can't speak for everyone else, skylar, but I posted the first link and I assure I had no idea. It was fun watching it pile up, though.

Yeah, um, calm down.
"I'd rather have the old, plain ... MetaFilter back."
This is one of the spontaneous amusements that pop up every so often. I think the complaint is a little over the top and persnickety.

lol, I saw this earlier when there were just 3 "back" posts and thought something was up. Now there are 5. Was wondering myself if there was some hidden joke, then I just thought it was coincidence. Maybe next week we can get a group of people posting with the common word of star or cell.

maybe some old Andrew Dice Clay-loyal people have been posting to the front page. He did a parody bit on "Day the Laughter Died" called "Hour, Back, Get It?" i.e.
I'll be back in an hour.....back.....GET IT?
I never did.....There are a few MP3 floating 'round the web of it.

The second one (backlinking) is mine, and I had not seen the first before posting it. The first two, at least, were serendipitous.

I thought it was great. Why not have a little link between the links, after all?

If I'd caught it earlier, I would have linked something on, oh, say, "Bach." Oh, well. Time to just wait for the next memetic MeFi link series.
