Has the new server been set up? June 10, 2002 4:59 AM   Subscribe

I would guess that the new server is up. Wow! Thanks Matt. Anyone else notice or am I just getting lucky?

It was early. Give me a break.

Yeah, I have been wondering what became of that server update myself. I remember Matt saying something had happened that the company had screwed something up, but I don't remember if all was resolved.

And, as a side note, who won the free books?

NOTE: the connection timed out as I was previewing this comment! How's that for well-timed irony?

As far as previewing and posting goes, this morning is the fastest I have experienced in the year I have been around. Who knows.

I'm chugging along at my usual snail speed. I can tell exactly when it's 11 AM and 3 PM EST every weekday if I'm on MetaFilter; the time outs and the slow downs become unbearable. I've always thought it was arriving at work and lunch time on the west coast that was causing it. I can almost hear everyone in San Francisco and Seattle clicking on their MetaFilter bookmarks every weekday precisely at noon.

Okay...so , like usual, my assumtions are crap. But what of the new server? Hmmm...

Matt's trip to the French Laundry can be read about here, just scroll down a bit.

Iconomy: That's an interesting theory but, as we all know, none of the Metafilterarians on the west coast have a job. So I'd think that 12PM PST click marks when they roll out of bed.

anathema: AHA! I think you discovered the secret! Donate money for the "server", indeed. Looks like the "server" was named Pierre and very quickly and efficiently fulfilled Mr. Haughey's request for more Merlot. To go with the crepes (what you call pancakes when you want to charge seven times as much for them).

Joking, of course! ♥

Nah, I was ogling the (giant!) new server box on Friday night, but it won't get plugged in for good until some new, quieter fans are installed.
