how is work on the unemployed member directory going? June 11, 2002 12:04 PM   Subscribe

I am just wondering on how work on the unemployed member directory is going? I know kindall is running the Mefi-Projects mailing list, but is there a better way?

I just got the OK to hire another programmer over the summer, and I would like to give MeFi'ers a leg up before the ad goes in the paper. I am not soliciting resumes, I just want to know if this is a possibility.

/me notes that Patrick is located in Seattle...

What kind of programmer are you looking for?

What kind of programmer are you looking for?

No! Think outside the box! What you want is someone who cannot program at all.

*Waggles thumbs at self*

This guy!

I cannot even spell prjoram, nor wiggle my thumbs. I'm not even looking for a job! Hire someone else!

I can program in 6502 assembly, COBOL, and FORTH. I wish I were kidding.

To think I spent all that time learning fortran in college. (Almost as useful as learning Logo.)

Why is patrickje's offer of a heads up for a job ridiculed while that modest needs guy got such a favorable response here? Or does everyone feel he is just 'showing off', and if so why not say so?

The way I read it, the guy says he's *not* looking for resumes, so people figure they might as well joke about trying to get the job. I don't read any ridicule, just lightheartedness about something that really isn't much fine (unemployment/job-seeking).

For what it's worth, Su basically nailed it. If people want NTAC, someone has to make it. That could be Matt or anyone else. If it's anyone else, they would probably have to do a pretty good job to earn the right to bear the prestigious name "notalentassclown", but there's nothing stopping someone from setting up their own independent MeFiJobSite.

If I were unemployed, with the time on my hands, I might take a crack at it myself. Heck, whoever makes it gets to be notalentassclown #1, with all of the assclown-cred it carries.

"isn't much *fun" that is... and I guess it's a good thing I'm not looking for a job.

I almost wish I were looking for a job just so I could get "assclown-cred"!

I'd pay for some of that!

OK, now to clear up, this post was not to solicit resumes, if you would like more information however, my email is in my profile. This post was mainly to ask what is up with notalentassclown? Is Matt willing to let someone else do it, is anyone interested, is there that much interest in this sort of thing anyway (well outside of the assclown-cred)?

Come December or so, I'll be vaguely interested in it. I think it could work pretty well, for the job-seeker anyway; with such a small talent pool, there wouldn't be nearly as much competition as on normal job boards. And for an employer, it could just be a first attempt - see if any MeFi folks could do the job, but don't really expect too much.

Hm. What would it be like if the accounts were directly linked to MeFi accounts? Background check = posting history... "Hey! This guy has like fifty double posts!... Loser."

I was just goofing. I intended no ridicule.

Er, I was just riffing on what skot said,
and intended the exact same amount of ridicule.
