three alternate mefi designs October 25, 2002 4:18 PM Subscribe
I was looking through an old thread, and found these three alternate mefi designs. Anyone know of any other not quite ready for prime time ideas that are still floating around?
nope, I've never redesigned.
Here's the complete history of the design of the site, where you can see how I came up with the current design.

Hey, look at that -- the first alternate design still shows posts that have been deleted. The one I see is a playboy post.

Holy crow I love that "newlook" one. Can you toss a link to MetaTalk onto it, Matt? It'll be my new homepage for sure.

I have my own color scheme due to a defective dark tinted monitor (yes I know how to work the adjustments). The background in metatalk is black and the white letters boldy stand out. The blue on the front page is a dark navy blue. And the words linked are green. I like the way the white stands out on the darker colors. The dark monitor actually makes it easier for me to see in this case. When I look at Mefi on other computers it seems so unnatural.

What about the met4filter and "Day When No Blogger Would Die" looks (I can't remember what it was called-- the AIDS benefit-type day)?

I've always liked metafilter the way I found it, blue and simple. Many sites try a tad to hard to look modern and slick with all these animated gifs and crap that only slow down the loading time (56k in da' house.) I've always appreciated Matt's slim little blue page. Change is good, but I hope metafilter's format remains simple and therefore accessible.

I have to agree with elwoodwiles: the site loads fast and it is one of the few internet sites that I actually enjoy to READ from the screen, instead of browsing through it.

I was still using meta4ilter until a couple of weeks ago ...
... any chance of incorporating these into the skins feature?

Being able to change the background color would be nice. The blue/white text combo is a little harsh, as is the white/black.

I personally liked the bandwith-saving design that was imposed back when the mefi server was still on the west coast. No link for it, unfortunately.

And does anyone know what metafilter looked like to those participating in that thread? Is our current blue the result of the redesign matt mentions?
