Mathowie backs up MeFi January 12, 2003 3:04 PM   Subscribe

Success! (I think)

Thanks to some in-person help, I remotely did a backup of the old, corrupted hard drive's web folders and deployed everything onto the new drive. Now that everything's back up, it all seems to be working again (disturbingly smoothly if I must say). If you find any problems, let me know here.

The comments were broken but are working now. The mail service seems to be stopped.

Hope it does work, Matt - so far, so good, it seems.

But does this mean you won't have to come out to the East Coast after all?

I get a "500 There is no web application configured to service your request" from time to time.

Right now I'm getting this:

Hmmm. Deleted cookies. Working now.
posted by jonson at 3:40 PM on January 12, 2003

I deleted cookies, and "generic" Mefi loaded fine.
But then I logged in, and got the CFM error jonson references.

Okay, I just got the whole MeFi page, but without any threads (just blue space), and a single line that reads "Connection Failure" above the "Home, About, Archives ..." line. That wasn't there before.
posted by yhbc at 4:01 PM on January 12, 2003

ok, the index should work now.

Don't feel bad, lots of ColdChef's jokes have been getting attributed to other persons lately. It's all part of the overall "cajun ennui" that settles in over time. Nothing to worry about, really.

Plus, I used to date a hot single chick from Portland, and I was beginning to worry she'd tracked me down.

Occasionally, I have to hit refresh on the main page a couple of times, as none of the threads, nor anything below the textad shows up.

Oh, and just now, when I pressed the spell check button, I got:

A couple of things I noticed, probably related, neither of them a big deal, just surprising:

- If I change my preferences, I have to log out and log back in to get them to be used.
- Preferences appear to be driven solely by cookies, so if I change my preferences in one browser, then use another browser, I don't see the changed preferences. I would expect the cookies to just hold login credentials and my actual preferences to be retrieved from MetaFilter's user database.

I keep logging in and finding that a weird bug causes a poster to copy & paste a mundane quote, prefaced with 'MetaFilter:...', as if the repetition of a comment in this format is inevitably and invariably hilarious.

Or is it a feature?

Whoosh. That was a long day. I'm still getting 500 errors and blank screens (no threads, just the title layout) from time to time.

Oh, and MetaFilter was unaccessible for the whole day. But I bet you knew that.

Which meant the only thing I could amuse (or torture) myself with today was to read the monkeys prattling on about Miguel, personal lubricant and Reba McEntire without joining in. Durn monkeys.
