Haha. That's fairly amusing. Thanks for the (albeit confusing) heads up, oliver.

9622 was funnier.

Unfortunately Mr Guilfoile is trying to do something that has already been done to death by his betters. Late to the party and sadly bland. This type of parody is so obvious that I'm seriously wondering how he managed to come up with one so lacking in real wit.

Nice try, but I don't think you can make a parody thread as hilarious as some real threads.

What site does "X-post with..." come from? I've never seen it used here.

(I did find the "are you WiFi" line pretty entertaining.)

It isn't funny. It could have been but it isn't.

Who uses the term "by his betters" any more? Forsooth, Sir Jon, pray tell us what scoundrel pissed in thy morning victuals!

I for one would like to welcome our new North Korean, Iraqi, Chinese, Iranian, American, Pakistani, Indian, and French overlords.

Oh come on. That was pretty funny.

Missed by a mile. No sign of a bushapologist anywhere.

Oh, crap, we need to *apologize* to Bush now?

"Sir Jon, pray tell us......."

WHAT???!!! There was piss in my breakfast? I hate eating pissed in cereal.

Piss + Cereal = Bad.

No wonder I don't feel well. Thanks for the heads up. I think I should go home sick.

(Well, I use "by his betters" because I am interesting and wonderful. It doesn't work for everyone, but I think I carry it off pretty well. And the ladies like it.)

I'm going to start using it too, then. What's the opposite -- his lessers?

His worses.

I laughed. But only on the inside.

"What's the opposite -- his lessers?"

His unworthies. His wretcheds. His ignominians.

Eh, I thought it was rather funny. Is he one of the guys from Modern Humorist?
posted by UKnowForKids at 4:46 PM on March 4, 2003

That was a letdown. Entirely too little snark. I'd think that the Cabalâ„¢, if there were one, would be insulted.

A prerequisite of satirizing something should be that one is at least somewhat familiar with it.

D- (with extra demerits for just making shit like 'X-post' up.)

Taking the piss is an excellent thing, but only if it's done well.

actually, the very end gave me that weird sick feeling that I got as a high schooler watching On the Beach. (although otherwise I agree with the everyone else that it's not a very good satire of this site in particular.)

This thread was worth it for that link alone

Watching how the very subjects of a parody rate how funny it is is the best part.

The reactions in this thread should be read aloud in your finest Comic Store Guy voice for best effect.

If (when?) MetaFilter is referenced on the Simpsons, it will be via Comic Book Guy. No doubt about it.
posted by turbodog at 11:56 PM on March 4, 2003

We won't be cast in a good light, either. Comic Book Guy is definitely the slashdot type.
