Pike! What do we do about this?

Well I will take the hit for this. .. as I said in one of my followup posts, I violated several policies, both written and in the culture. . .
If people want to go the extra mile and call me a jerk, well it reflects on them, and not me. . .

timeistight, various shifts in the wind are enough to provoke Durwood into ranting against "the leftists."
"various shifts in the wind" could pretty much describe the complaint that Danf had about CNN's headline. I think most MeFites seem to have agreed, but I'd add the corollary that incensed reactions to minor perceived slights tend to beget other incensed reactions over minor perceived slights.

mkultra: excellent analogy. It reminded me very much of a Dead show; there was a definite theme, and various players pulled in various directions, not always adhering to the original theme. Controlled chaos. I think the counterpoint of the pike wackiness was well balanced against the seriousness of the issue at hand, which added depth. Very pythonesqe. One of the more fun mefi threads in recent memory.

My friends and I had developed this bar meme where if someone says "power up!" you say it too and pump your fist if you heard them and shout "Power Up!"
So, if a group of us were at a bar spread out talking to people, shouts of "Power Up!" would spread throughout the bar.
Yes, I do regret this, and yes, I think Pike! is a very short term (hopefully) meme, and if not I for one welcome...

If any of you went to the University of British Columbia in the early-to-mid 1980's (and I suspect it was probably the same for every other institution of higher learning on the continent), and frequented the Pit Pub, as I did, you probably remember this : during certain portions of the dance-floor-packing nightly playings of Billy Idol's execrable cover of Tommy James & The Shondells' "Mony Mony", the assembled Biffs and Muffys out on the floor would pump their fists in the air and shout, in unison, 'Hey! Get fucked, get laid!'
Few things in my life have pushed me as close to wanting to mow down a crowd with an automatic weapon, but I didn't - although I did have a few run-ins with the bouncer they called The Terminator - in part because The Pit was the only real bar on campus, and getting barred (let alone getting arrested) would have really sucked.

Well, that’s how I felt when I heard the news. Oddly enough, I instantly went into paranoid crank mode: oh, isn’t that convenient, they have all these scandals about manufactured evidence and SUDDENLY they find the guys. Yeah, right. I do this with every story, frankly: I conjure the counterspin. It helps you stay sane when you hear the argument put forth by people who believe it.

danf, I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but I suggest you stfu. Every time you open your mouth you make me regret my commitment to free speech. To be a jerk is one thing; to be a jerk who knows he's being a jerk and goes right ahead with a cheery "I know I'm being a jerk so I won't mind if you delete this!" is another; but to whine about being taken to task for it ("disproportionate" my ass!) suggests that you'd do it again in a heartbeat if you felt bad about another news site. If you "need to scream," open your window and bother the neighbors, not us.

nightly playings of Billy Idol's execrable cover of Tommy James & The Shondells' "Mony Mony"
OH MY GOD.
In 86' a friend and i shared a place above a pipe shop. The girls down the hall would play that song over and over and over (some UB-40 in between) and OVER. Once, I opened the door to blast some black Sabbath to counter the wretched sounds when i saw one of the girls in the hall waving her arms over her head to the sway of the beat ..."MONY, MONY"
It became a call sign for horrid music and the gumchewing popbaby bubbleheads.
for months i would only have to raise my arms and wave them side to side to receive a laugh, then the laughter faded past cliche until i was waterballoned for displaying our parody once to oft. so i came up with a new one.
NOTHING MATTERS BUT THE NEW WHITESNAKE ALBUM!

Danf, you have offended the nu-Cabal, nothing less than total capitualation is expected. Say ten 'hail Matt's.
Alternatively, call people pike-breathed pikey pikers whilst pretending to say your 'hail Matt's.
A badly phrased FPP with a non-link would be unlikely to garner much positive feedback, whatever the subject.
Question:
If Jesus is driven to felicide by witnessing a person partake in a little self pleasurement, what is his reaction to those gloating at the death of another?
Or
I wonder what the reactions of Uday and Usay would be to the announcement of the death of a perceived enemy? Quiet reflection or loud exultation?

The action of killing a cat, cat-slaying.
Although how I didn't guess this from just looking at the word now eludes me. Personally, I agree with asok, in that I can find no pleasure in this, although there is some consolation in the fact that these two are thereby prevented from further acts of evil. Not that Jesus has anything to do with it, either way.
