Meet me at the corner April 13, 2001 9:11 PM Subscribe
It seems that at least four MeFi-ers currently in Seattle have been on the same streetcorner at different times in the past 36 hours. Any interest in meeting up all at the same time? My preference is somewhere in the beginning of May, somewhere downtown.
I'll be there for certain. I have fond memories of those BBS get-togethers and wouldn't mind meeting other metafilterians IRL...

I could possibly make a Columbus meeting. It's 2 - 2.5 hours away.

Damn, maybe I should fly up there and meet you guys in Seattle? It seems weird to have a metafilter gathering that I can't go to. Make it on a weekend, and I'll do my best to take a quick jaunt up there. seriously.

Ok, to get an idea of if this should happen:
-Who else of you out there would come to this?
-Is a saturday a good day?
-Are there suggestions for a place in Seattle? For me, a downtown or near downtown place would be best. I'd also like the initial gathering to be in a non-loud place (i.e. no bar or "in front of dance dance revolution at gameworks"). There's always a predictable but dependable place like the speakeasy cafe. Or maybe 2nd Ave Pizza?

Didn't Howard Rheingold write something about the five stages of online communities? So it looks like metafilter is reaching the next level!

heya, I'm in Seattle but only until Saturday morning. Speakeasy is great and Friday might also be great, otherwise I'll have to wait until I return in August. We've had some weblogger get-togethers here already and they have been a lot of fun.

The Speakeasy's OK, but Jillian's (South Lake Union on Westlake) has ping-pong tables! Prepare to die.

I'm up for a Seattle gathering. Somewhere downtown is marginally better for me because I already pay for monthly parking at 2nd and Union, but really, I'm not going to let the gathering being out of a hoofing radius from that exact spot keep me from attending.
A weekend is best for a gathering that will go on for hours, but perhaps those of us who work downtown could set up a monthly lunch gathering on a weekday at Westlake Center's food court or some nearby venue. (Maybe the Market.)

NYCMeFi here, as long as we're just giving shout-outs. I know some of you have to be from around here. We can do the super-geeky simultaneous meetings in different time zones.

I live across the street from the Speakeasy, so a better location could hardly be found. It would be rather tricky for me to attend a gathering outside downtown (cars? driving? whoa!) but I'd probably make a go of it for a one-time event.

Sheesh, so much for Capitol Hill being "the place to go" in Seattle. But I'm only whining because (a) I live there and (b) I have no car. But downtown is easy. Speakeasy, even. 't'would be cool.

Matt, that was a MeFiSF!? Damn, and I didn't even realize that was why everyone was so cool. Did I meet you there? I can't remember...
And yes, we should do another. We just can't wait for Lane to come in town again (even though it seems to happen with semiregularity) mush less for he and Courtney to move here...
Perhaps the Superfriends can convince him to get a move on...

oh yes, somewhat off-topic, I'm doing another semi-annual cross-country road trip heading from Seattle to Boston and back again leaving this Saturday -- northern route, most likely. If anyone wants to show me around their fair town, or give me [and my sister or friend depending on the direction] couch space, I'd bring you some Seattle coffee for your trouble and immortalize you on my dopey website. Contact me via my profile.
Otherwise, well, I can make a Seattle MeFi gathering until Saturday or a Boston one after the 28th.

minneapolis,
norm, there is a bar in south mpls that has a 70's rec room feel complete with the old games, the name escapes me, but I can find out tomorrow, maybe this is what you're thinking of. did someone say ping-pong, my apartment is centered around my table.

I guess the interest has waned for a Seattle gathering. I'd at least like to actually propose a date of May 5. So it'll have a festive backdrop.

Seriously, though.. I like the idea of some sort of regional MeFi user gathering (which I'm sure has been mentioned before, but I'm far too lazy to look for it). It'd be like the BBS get-togethers of days gone by, where you finally get to put a face to that asshole who kept blowing up all your ships in TW2002.. but I digress. Anyway, would anyone else be interested in doing something like this? I think it'd be somewhat cool to visit with other midwestern MeFi users, as long as we promise not to call each other by our nicknames..
