More Inside

It would be nice, if when making a post, we could also at the same time post the first comment, when we want to do a "more inside". Mostly because smartasses tend to come along and make the first comment before you can.

Prepare both your post and your [more inside] in notepad or the text editor of your choice before you press that special button, is my advice, rather than ask for a totally unnecessary pony.

Also, twine42 needs a good public flogging for breaking the unwritten rules of AskMe, and should be filled with deep shame and self-loathing at this point.

This is definitely already flagged as a feature for the rewrite of the site (which is waaaay behind schedule, sorry to say).

Glad to hear the code-update is still planned, Matt. I was starting to think it might not be on the cards, but was hesitant to pester you about it...

It might have been a dumb joke comment, but if it was what I thought it was ("Lemme sit you down and tell you about the birds and bees"), you can hardly fault the guy for doing it.

When you're handed a straight line like "What stuff do you REALLY need for a baby" it's damn near impossible to not make that joke!

It's inhumane to expect otherwise!

The answer was along the lines of "an egg, several million sperm plus about nine months". As fff says, hard to resist, especially as there was a whole five minutes between the post and the more inside.

i personally like the ascerbic or jokey comments. your brain can separate fact from sass, and it makes threads more fun. why remove them?

Peter, because-- it's not answering the question. The point of AskMe is to answer questions... it says so right when you make a comment. (Something along the lines of "A smartass remark doesn't help anyone.")

Yes, but people show up because it's not pure, boring information. Otherwise it'd be the encyclopedia. The genius of AskMe is in the participants. You've got to allow a little wiggle room or all you're going to get are bulleted lists of data. And then no one will show up. And then you'll be stuck for how to make a baby.

I just prepare the whole post in the text box (or in a text editor with great saving properties), and then cut and past if it looks too ponderous.

Glad to see we could once again agree upon this already agreed upon issue. My only regret is that Matt posted before twelve to seventeen people could describe in the utmost detail the way they use notepad to finish a [more inside] post when the methods described don't differ in the least.

I would like to get my sincere thanks to Stavros for attempting to rekindle this well established tradition, even if it was thwarted by the powers that be.

I wasn't surprised to see my post get deleted, but it was the obvious answer to the question and was entirely accurate.

Instead of having new functionality for the 'MI' bit why not just write it all in the main pane, then cut out the MI but before you post, go in and paste. It's quicker than any smart arse with witty comments.
