Pissed indeed I missed this. Looking forward to all the nasty details.

Resolution for 05 - get to a MeFi MeetUp.

Will arrange one in New Hope/Lambertville for either winter or spring.

Dorian, I've been at work for about 2 hours now (jazz 88), it's not yet 7 am, you work damn quick!

'Twas a very fun meetup. Here are pictures.

Next time there's a NYC area meetup planned, someone please email me. I don't check the boards as often as I'd like to anymore, and it seems that I've missed three meetups by a day.

I really like the "amberglow in smoker's exile" photo at songdog's link. Great photo, and great photo of amberglow!

I actually was thinking of coming out to this one but I was laid low but some kind of fever type illness. Looks like you all had fun though.

Thanks, EB!

i hope everyone got home safely? It was a pleasure meeting all you lovely ladies and gentlemens, and reuniting with the one i had previously met. a good time had by all, especially me. dorian, christ almighty you are crafty with that lens like a double agent. good lort taht is some fancy photo ops. thanks all for taking and posting pictures. i have to say that amberglow is esp. photogenic, and goddam rawks. i can't believe you silly freaks continued the party in maplewood! so, i hold you all to the promise of the next NJ meetup at Medieval Times for some rennaisance floppery and crapulence! down, down, down, red knight's going down...

So close to my stomping grounds. Amberglow looks like a professor I used to work for back in college, minus the glasses held together by a safety pin.

stupid exif captions now replaced by non-clever semi-meaningful captions.

(I do not remember the name of immlass' gentleman friend. I am sorry.)

Amber in exile. Apropos on many levels.

here are my pics. (not nearly as exciting as songdog's or dorian's though.)

Sorry I ditched before the bar. I was pretty tired and figured I should go home before I was unsafe to drive. You all look like you had fun with it.
posted by Karmakaze at 10:24 AM on November 7, 2004

Wow. You're all better looking than I imagined.

I think i photograph better in Jersey. (either better photogs or maybe it's a thru-window thing.) Also, they have much better elementary school playgrounds there. : >

I agree with EB about Songdog's amberglow photo.

dorian: Great captions!

(MetaFilter: I suppose it's possible I ate the smurf without even noticing.)

Sorry I missed the playground. Well, OK, I'm not, actually. But I'm glad it was there for you.
posted by languagehat at 1:35 PM on November 8, 2004

"Eating the smurf" sounds perilously close to "jumping the shark." At least that's what I tell myself it sounds like, lest my mind set itself to wand'ring.

sprachenhut: I wish more people wore hats. I wish I could wear a hat -- I may have to stop in worth & worth and have a look. I am still disappointed (and confused!) by the request for you to remove your hat.

as for the playground... my choice was "graveyard" but that may have been excessively juvenile.

it was great to meet everyone and to see evan and jen again. I dearly hope that the medieval times fiasco comes to pass. also, I will try to be less anti-social about attending nyc-type meetups.

I think the playground was an appropriate compromise between graveyard and Donkey Konga.

ah, this is indeed the site that writes itself.

(also, the oversized weatherproof marimba was quite an acceptable substitute for tombstones and people of corpsified stature)

A gentleman removes his hat indoors, nicht wahr?

I too wish I could wear a hat. I wear all my friends' hats, when they exist.

i'm looking into getting discount tickets and will keep you all posted.

I'm half-hoping for a Mefi-MoFi meetup in mid-January in either Philly or NYC, since I'll be over there for a few weeks for my brother-in-law's wedding. There's not many people to meet with in New Zealand. *sniffs, looks lonely*

We'll have one for you tracicle--just give us advance notice : >
posted by amberglow at 5:46 PM on November 8, 2004

tracicle, for you I'll try to make the trek to NYC if at all possible, though by then I expect to be living in another state entirely (either Massachusetts or madness).

kenko: I normally do remove my hat, but I didn't like being told by the bouncer as we went in that I had to take it off ("house rules"), so my rebellious streak kicked in.

dorian: I bought most of my hats at Worth & Worth; I haven't been there in ages, but they used to be incredibly accommodating, blocking and steaming your hat for free and cleaning fresh bird shit off as needed (one reason I wear hats is a bad pigeon experience on emerging from Victoria Station in London many moons ago, and I had another on Madison Ave. back in the '80s, just a few blocks from W&W).
posted by languagehat at 5:53 PM on November 8, 2004

goddam, you go with that. When i went to medieval times in high school, my friend was "knighted" in this elaborate, corny ceremony. languagehat must be knighted!! Sir langugagehat. Then he could wear his hat anywhere he pleases. tracicle, if you come to nyc, i'd be honored to meet you.

What was that about living in a state named madness massachusetts ?
posted by troutfishing at 7:12 PM on November 8, 2004

If he's a Sir, can he carry a sword? I bet no one'd ask him to remove his hat then.

No, languagehat, do not be tempted by the dark side of the force.
