In semi-related vein I have seen meetup.com referred to in a few meetup threads. There is even one for Melbourne. It seems to be more geared for the States than anwhere else; indeed there are only a few members on the Melbourne page and one of them isn't even a MeFi member. Does this service work?

Meetup.com is doubtless fine for anywhere on the planet.

We don't use it in NY because the grey is faster and better suited for hashing out plans, is all.

Definitely have fun, and post pics afterward, please!
