World of Warfare Guild? February 13, 2005 12:07 AM Subscribe
A MetaFilter WoW guild?
I'd join it.
Currently, I'm playing Horde on Mal'Ganis (a PVP server), and I'm not connected with any guild. However, my character is low level, so starting over wouldn't be an issue if it comes to that. I'd like to stay Horde, though, if possible.
Playing with other MeFites would be fun. This is a good suggestion!

It's a shame that the Europeans and Koreans are on different sets of servers than the N. Americans. Given that MeFi is, relatively speaking, so global.
To maybe get the ball rolling, to make available something concrete those interested can do, I think I'm going to pick a medium population (N.A.) server and create a new character, then I'll report the server and character back here. Then anyone interested can also create a character on that server and email mine (or post here). I'll go do that now...

Okay, I selected Shadowsong as the medium population server. It's a "normal", meaning PvE primary, server. I created a character, Thereal, who is a human female priest as a primary healer, in the interests of hoping to user her for group play.

I've read that Europe and North America will eventually be able to play on each others' servers. Not sure if or when that'll happen, though. And that sucks, because I'm hopping on the European release, and I'd really like to have someone to start off with.
Any European WoWers out there?

"Another vote for Horde please."
Well, supposedly Alliance is much more popular than Horde and so an Alliance guild should be attractive to the most mefites. Is what I was thinking.
"gah! human?!!"
I was expecting that any mefites could create any Alliance character and we'd be able to play together and form a guild. I wanted to do a priest for grouping purposes, and, for now, I figured a night elf would be trouble being that they start on another continent.
"I created a human Paladin named Catir on Shadowsong so I could play along."
Woohoo!
Stynxno, will you indulge us and start a character on Shadowsong, too?
Headspace, could you in-game email (I've never actually done this, so if I'm misunderstanding something, let me know) "Thereal" so we can keep track of each other? I can add your character to my "friends" list.
"I've read that Europe and North America will eventually be able to play on each others' servers."
That would be very cool, as I'd love to play with you and all our European sistren and brothren.

Ooh, I started playing on Friday (the European launch) and I was hoping something like this would show up - I'd love to go adventuring with fellow Mefites. For the record, my (lowly level 9) undead warrior-girl is called Terpsichoria and resides on the European Earthen Ring RP server (partially due to roleplay servers filtering out the leet-kids to some extent, and because a couple of forums i post to have their guilds on there). Feel free to mail me/shout at me/find me and attempt to hack my legs off, Euro-WoWers.

I already have a horde character, and a guild with friends of mine on Gorefeind, so an Alliance character would be great. I will make one and join you on Shadowsong.
If other MeFites wanted to play a horde server on Shadowsong, we could have a little healthy competition of good vs. evil..
evil always wins, because good is dumb.

I'll make an Alliance and Horde character on Shadowsong until we get this sorted out; I wouldn't mind playing Alliance if this is the only way to get a guild going.
(in the meantime, you PVPers can hunt down my Undead Rogue, Prosthetic, on Mal'Ganis)

There are no level requirements, EB, but you need to pony up 1g to register the charter and 10g to make a tabard. Then another 1g to buy a tabard so we can all look alike.

At the moment, I'm going to stick to my realm but if I ever start a Horde character, I'll be sure to join up with you all.
BTW, on most realms, Alliance outnumber Horde 3:1 so expect massive ganking for the Hordies if PvP. Also, Priests are generally in very short supply for Hordies so create one if you want no problem teaming up =)

hmm.
well, i just checked out warcraftrealms.com which has census reports on how many players are on each server, what the player types are, etc. I just checked out Shadowsong, and the horde is outnumber 5:1.
I come from Stromrage (54 Tauren Hunter w000!) which has double the population of Shadowsong and where the Alliance / Horde ratio is "only" 3:1. The problem with higher ratios means that the lag in cities is proportional to that ratio. So the lag in Org is 5 times less than in Ironforge. And since my computer can barely handle Org lag during peak times, I doubt I could handle IF lag.
So I'm going to stick with the horde. Besides the technical issues, I like playing on the side of the underdogs (and I like being on the side of "good" - the alliance are the biggest pricks in the whole history of warcraft - too bad the developers only focused on the alliance and left the Horde half finished...). So if anyone wants to form a Horde guild on Shadowsong, email me or shoot me an IM in AIM (email is in the profile). Otherwise I'll just stick to Stormrage.

Maybe we'll just make guys to join the guild, but then we'll be inactive until May, if that's allright. Damn, you'll all be so far ahead of us....

emptybowl: it's not bad form at all. guilds basically set their own rules. the one i'm in on Stormrage has the rule that you need to sign on at least once every 5 days or you let the leader know if you can't. Otherwise, they kick you.
Some guilds are more restrictive and demand that you play at certain times, etc.
However, to sign the "charter", you can only have one character sign it. But once the guild is formed, you can have all 8 character slots join up :)
Okay. I'll register MetaHorde tonight (7pm EST ish). If you want to sign the charter, send me an ingame mail or a tell :)

Will either of the Meta guilds have rules? If it's going to get restrictive (like having to play x hours per week, or logging in x times per week), then I don't know if I'll commit to creating new characters. I have other in-game commitments with folks outside Mefi, and do need to have a life outside of the game, so the more restrictive the rules, the less chance I'll be able to meet them.

Okay, I've set up a WoW MeFi Guild forum over on my site . In order to see the forum though (I wanted to shield it from any other person viewing the site), you'll have to register, and then send me an email (joe at emptybowl dot com) with your username and I'll update your forum permissions. (I wish there was an easier way to do it, but if we want to keep the forum private, it's the only way.)

MsVader:
MetaHorde will have one rule: Don't be a jerk.
We as a guild can define what "jerk" means (ie. loot whoring, etc).

I am just flattered that you all have chosen 'MetaHorde' as the Horde guild name.
*blush*
ps - sorry Alliance for defecting, but playing an evil undead underdog is just much more fun!

Okay, MetaHorde has been "chartered" and all I need is 9 signatures.
Send me a tell in game.

Having a few problems with the forum, but I don't have time to sort it out tonight. I'll take a look at it tomorrow, so don't be freaked out if you see a couple errors if you go there. (It works fine, the header is just a little screwed up in NS and FF)

No rules other than being a metafilter member.

Stynxno - I'll be on tonight and will be able to sign the charter, if you're around. I hope you guys aren't too far ahead of me, and I'll be able to catch up.
The forum problems I mentioned last night seems to have sorted themselves out, since I haven't done anything, but have stopped getting errors in NS and FF. I tracked it down to a server configuration issue, though, so maybe they fixed it over the night or something.
Not that it really matters, though, since, sadly, only one person has signed up for the forum so far. (Well, other than MsVader, but she doesn't count, since she lives with me.) If you guys don't want to use it, that's cool, just let me know. But I think it's a good off-line way to keep in touch offline, set up instance/raid runs, etc...

Damn. I saw this too late. I've got a couple of characters on Tichondrius. If anyone's on there, hit me as either "wondergnome" or "lookdownhere".

The MetaFilter Alliance guild, Mefites, has been created on Shadowsong. The 8 founding members have been promoted to officers and are able to invite new members. Please ingame email me, Thereal, with your mefi member name. Also, a guild tabard will cost 10g to create. Please start contributing money to the tabard fund. And recruit more MetaFilter WoW players!

WoW. Sorry for stealing all your goods, people. I didn't know the was still an active exploit... Sorry. Anyway, I'll sell your stuff back at one tenth the WoW prices (in dollars). Let me know...

- World of Warcraft is, like, the most popular MMORPG evAr!
- I like to play, but I'm not very gregarious so playing with people I know from mefi would be really cool. I'm sure other people are similarly inclined.
- But we'd need to be on the same server, which requires some coordination and, admittedly, is a pain.
I know this was posted here back in November when the game first shipped; but I'm thinking more people are surely playing it now (although it's sold out everywhere, apparently). And, again, we mefites that are playing are all scattered across various servers and so some organization would be necessary for us to play together. (Casual mentions don't really accomplish much.)posted by Ethereal Bligh at 12:08 AM on February 13, 2005
