until there is a Newsfilter of MeFites, the blue is the next best thing that i have to an intelligent community to click to that not only discusses the best of the web, but will provide at least one insight or snappy one-liner regarding todays current events.

and as the others have said, theres no harm in one topical post a day on the blue about what Everyone is talking about. if anything it helps build the community.

now where are the bunnies with the pancake hats?

Kind of off topic, but it should be noted that all three of the uncommented posts tellurian pointed out had the bad luck to neighbor especially attention-grabbing threads: the first was just before the Condoleeza Rice-dominatrix thread, the second came before Golden Gate Bridge suicide thread, and the last was bracketed between the unsecured webcams post and the Six Apart to buy Live Journal post.

I've noticed that lots of posts tend to be somewhat overlooked when they are posted near a hot thread, especially on busy days (where busy means more posts) when posts scroll down faster.

I always admired this community for it's addiction to arts and politics plus it's dedication to weird and wonderful topics.

I don't 'funny' stuff - but I do mind stuff you would find in the yellow press and celebrity crap.

Add me to the list of people who had no idea that this was due. (but I'm not American) That being said, perhaps the occasional pop-culture post satisfies the need such that we can go on with more interesting stuff. Isn't this just another case of "I don't want to see that on the FP?" So move on.

I will add that, if nothing else, it gave us another chance to discuss notions of guilt, innocense and evidence. A discussion that needs to continue, by the looks of it.

Well, it's probably not just your feeling (after all, all it takes is one person to agree with you to counter that), but while I think MeFi contains more trivia of the bad kind, I don't think it's a bad thing. That is, trivia of the bad kind is bad because it's toxic in large concentrations. In low concentrations, it's harmless. It's like cooking oil: it's not quite good for you, but it's nice in small quantities. Too much and you die.

So, yeah, there's a bit more trivia on MeFi, but it's at the "flavoring" stage, not the "bad for your health" stage.

The verdict thread will have to do until someone finds or comes up with a Jacko regression to occupy us.

Besides, it was a funny thread. These days it seems like the choice is laughing or crying and crying gives the bastards the satisfaction of knowing they got to you so laugh instead.

I will point and laugh at his fans who never bothered themselves with any of the facts of the case. Especially the douchebag who had a restraining order laid on him by the Court TV chick because he was intentionally disrupting her broadcasts.

Insert obligatory argument that the word "obligatory" should get a moratorium here. Aside from that, I found nothing wrong with yet another MJ thread, even though Google claims MJ's been referred to at least a hundred times in MeFi's existence. Comparatively, the word "obligatory" has only been mentioned 74 times.
