No, there was no gathering. I got there at 7:50, and found the C Lounge was closed until 10. It also turns out there's a cover charge for that bar - though I'd been told there wasn't one. I had spent an hour and twenty minutes getting there, so instead of going straight home I wanted to make some effort to salvage the evening.
Over the next couple of hours I walked around in shoes not conducive to walking for blocks, got hassled by some really repulsive men, called a couple of friends who live downtown to see if they could meet me for a beverage (they couldn't), and popped into an internet cafe on Yonge to see if anyone had declared an alternate bar. Finally I went home, realizing on the way that I never logged out of MeFi on that internet cafe computer, and have left myself wide open to account sabotage.
So you may congratulate yourself on having been wise not to go.

Wow, that sucks, babe. We'll have to try again in a few weeks at a more pubby type place.

Wow, that's lame.
Joelf, if you're going to do the picking of a spot, the least you could do is confirm they're open at the time you sched.
OS, where's the cafe? (email me). I'm heading DT in 15 mins. If it's in the area I'm hitting, I'll go in and log you out (which computer were you on)?

It could have happened to anyone. Jeez, Joel discussed it with me before he made the post, giving me a link to the C Lounge info, and I gave it a cursory look and said it looked great. I would never have thought to check on an opening time.

So, is there somewhere/somewhen we can go that everyone can be comfortable with? Maybe next Sunday, unless people are away for the weekend?

I really don't know very much at all about Toronto bars. But I would humbly suggest Scallywag's, at Yonge and St. Clair. It has a second floor patio.

No patio, but once again, I would suggest Insomnia at Bathurst and Bloor. Nice, low-key decor, DJ's spinning but not too loud to talk unless you're at the back (comfy couches), most martinis $7-$8, fantastic chicken brie and avocado sandwiches for $8, and good service. What more could you want? There this last weekend (coming in from Ottawa) but going back soon.
