This Greenlighters post looks like a hoax. The domain name was registered the same day it was posted, and as far as I can tell, all 555 users and all 4089 posts materialised yesterday. Google doesn't turn up anything on them, and it's a single-link post.
Maybe Maxor just happened upon it the same day it came up, but it looks like he hoaxed it up.

How... rare...

I agree that this is suspicious.

The only way to know is either for Maxor to fess up, "I got fooled" or to fess up, "I am friends with the site owner / sub-standard-meme initiator." It's definitely possible that even if the site is a hoax, that Maxor is not at fault.

Apparently it derives from the Something Awful Forums, like most things.

Stuff like this greenlighters shit and the Rainbow Party hype, are what you call "self-fulfilling" prophecies. They probably weren't going on before, but thanks to the overactive libidinal fantasies of some magazine editor, it's only a matter of time before we hear a news item about one or the other because some idiot kid heard about it in the news or on a website.

obvious hoax, but you have to admit this avatar is priceless:

Fake or not, Greenlighting is our next big moral panic, and we are in on the ground floor. I offer a challenge, or a MeFite summer project, if you will.

Go to the Greenlighters forum and sign up. Post a story about your greenlight experience that is A) convincing, B) presses as many hot buttons as possible for the sensationalist journalists and religious righties who will be visiting the site in droves over the next few weeks, and C) uses "quonsar" in the context of some sexual practice--i.e. "she got dragged me into the men's room and quonsared me" or "my quonsar was so damned sore the next day I couldn't walk."

You win if details from your post appear in the next rantings of Michele Malkin, Ann Coulter, or Sean Hannity.

Dear AskMe. Michelle Malkin totally quonsared me and now I've come out in a rash. Should I see a doctor?
posted by dodgygeezer at 2:07 PM on July 3, 2005

Ewwww, no more bareback quonsaring for you.

Isn't "quonsar" that frothy mixture of spittle and fecal matter sometimes seen after a rimjob?
posted by Ethereal Bligh at 2:42 PM on July 3, 2005

ach, lay off the q-man. I like you for what you are, and I like quonsar for what he is. You both serve your function in our community. Leran to dig eachother.
posted by jonmc at 2:47 PM on July 3, 2005

Most of the comments on the thread hint at this being yet another obvious steaming pile of BS anyway.

Perhaps it's just a trap to see if Michelle Malkin really IS as gullible as everyone says.

I love quonsar and mean this as a tribute! But if he takes it amiss, I apologize, and withdraw that part of the suggestion.

I was talking to EB, LarryC. I was ignorant of your existence until just now, but your point is well taken just the same.

I'm in, if others are. I think it would be uproariously funny for the MeTa community to hoax Big Media.

I'd be curious to see how many GLers are carrying some disease that they conveniently fail to disclose. I know that works on the assumption that there are real communities of this. Still, this has always been a point of note regarding any form of random promiscuity. (Learn to be a bit more selective, people!)

And, that's the one use nobody thought of. "I popped this chick a few weeks ago, but it turns out she gave me quonsar."

Why all the hating? I didn't hoax up anything, in fact I'm feeling pretty stupid now for playing into the hands of whoever if this really is a big scam. Besides, I have these red bumps on my nether regions and I think it might be quonsar.

I, for one, have been driving around with my lights off, chasing down and beating senseless anyone foolish enough to challenge my chosen urban legend by flashing their headlights at me. I will now include forcible anal sex in a green polo shirt to confuse things even more.

Posted: Mon Jul 04, 2005 11:35 am Post subject: We've been noticed (again!)
Hey guys check this out. When I was going through the server logs last night trying to figure out who hacked us (which we figured out BTW) I saw a ton of referrers from this place metafilter.com (if you don't know a referrer means someone click a link from there to here).

So I went over to this www.metafilter.com and it is some kind of news blog, and they had an article on Greenlighting. The article is here http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/43232 you can read it yourself.

A bunch of them think this is some kind of joke but they are probably just hating on our freedom of expression. But whatever you do don't be a moron and go flame them or anything just discuss it here. We don't need to start another war like some idiots did before. Our Yahoo group being deleted was pretty damaging to our community, we don't need something like that happening again.

What really worries me is in the article they are saying that parent groups are getting involved and going to be going after us and doing stuff like stealing their kids green shirts.

SO YOU MAY WANT TO HIDE YOUR GREEN SHIRTS BEFORE YOUR PARENTS FIND THEM lol

Golden. Either they are real and simply migrated (which still leaves the mystery of just how quickly they appeared and the whole registrar stuff), are fake and have people working the boards to make it appear active, or started fake and attracted newer, real members who are posers or newbies.

BTW, what do you think would happen the next time St. Patty's Day rolls around?
