Old active thread not showing up in recent comments view October 24, 2001 1:31 PM   Subscribe

A certain, apparently timeless, undying thread from 8/24/01 has comments as recent as 1 PM on 10/24 -- but it doesn't show up when I view MeFi by recent comments (though threads with less-recent most-recent comments are listed). What gives?

I would hope, for the sake of clarity, that this was a feature, not a bug.

There's no thread there. No need to click.

These are not the droids you're looking for. Move along...

feh. I think (and hope) your precious thread is safe -- MeTa readers are generally (still) a trustworthy bunch. I did hesitate to post this, but, it seems, I was too damn curious not to ask....

I would hope, for the sake of clarity, that this was a feature, not a bug.

Well, I thought it was a bug, given how I understand the sort-by-recent-comments feature (which already exists) is intended to work. I could be wrong, of course.

My hope that 'this is a feature' simply means that I don't want our silliness to take away from the usefulness of sort-by-recent, since we've sort of seceded in a useless way from general MeFi discourse (in thread 9622).

Maybe Matt has a bozo-filter set up to remove silly threads from sort-by-recent.

That's actually a good point there, Koko.

It would be pretty annoying for people to have 9622 come up on their recent list all the time.

Why would 9622 ever come up? That thread was dead loooooong ago! *wink, wink*

I think the "recent comments" only goes back a certain period of time, like a couple weeks or a month or whatever. Once a thread gets older than that it is presumed moldy even if it has recent comments.

I asked about this once and was told that the feature only goes back 20 threads to help keep the server load down. Makes sense, but I can't help but think that if the feature went waaaay back, it would help reduce double posts and keep the best discussions going.

It does show up in the "My comments" view (only if you posted to it, of course).

i think it's a great thread. everyone has to cut loose and do something nonsensical sometimes.

I think it's a horrible thread and no one should ever, ever GO THERE.

I've been reading the thread, I think I'm at # 150. I don't know what's worse, me reading all you're guys' silly ramblings or you're guys silly ramblings. Probably me.

Oh, well, back to thread.

Now say that with a straight face, mattpfeff, wherever you are ;-)
