Get Your War On updated November 1, 2001 3:06 PM Subscribe
There's a new a new update to the hilarious "Get Your War On" comic that was the subject of this post. Now there's a page two and a page three. Since the original page was linked already, this would be a double post on MeFi, right? But it's okay in MetaTalk, right? Or should the updates just be mentioned in the comments of the original post where no one wil see them?
It only sort of answers the question, which I believe to be, "Where does this go?" Okay..... it doesn't go in MetaTalk, and it would be jumped as a double post on the front page (???), so where does it go?
I've wondered about this a bit. Following Matt's "Peter Pan" and Will Weaton follow-ups, I think we can assume that follow-ups are allowed, but I don't know that we have an established protocol for them.
Personally I found the GYWO comic to be so funny that I'd love to hear about a page three, but I think a front page post would get viciously attacked.

You should probably refrain, for no other reason than the original "Get Your War On" strips wound up as a sextuple post.

I'm sure not going to post it. My user id (11271) is way too high to get away with that shit, ha ha.

Just post it to the original threads, if you must. This isn't "GetYourWarOnFilter". If its good enough, it'll find its way around.

There's an interview with mnftiu creator David Rees in the LA Weekly which is worth a read but not quite worth a new thread on MeFi.

We need a MeFi Revisited page for follow-ups, complete with links to their original thread! (Should this be in the "Feature Requests" section? IS this the Feature Requests section? Does anyone know or care what section MeTa posts are in since Matt changed the front page style??)
My user id (11271) is way too high to get away with that shit

Holy Cow! Stop the presses!! Sure, I've seen this link a trillion times, but this is new. I can't believe it! Do you think other sites that have been posted on MetaFilter have new stuff, too? Oh, God. Maybe CNN has updated in the last five minutes. What if I'm missing something? Quick! Post it on the front page!!!!
How I wish there was something I could use to remind me to check my favorite pages for new stuff. Like a bookmark, maybe.....
This internet thing is so confusing. May I have another spoonful, please?

stefanie: So if the CNN mainpage got hacked and defaced this evening and someone posted that information to MetaFilter, you'd attack them with full vitriolic rage, right? CNN's been linked plenty of times before, after all; if you were really that interested in that sort of thing, you should have had the site bookmarked....
Obviously, a hard-line "never link to a previously linked site" doesn't work terribly well. If a site undergoes a major repurposing and redesign, for example, it's probably worth a second look. But on the flip side of things, you're right that every new change doesn't warrant a new thread on the front page. If there was a thread on Site X made ten minutes ago but now Site X has endured some radical change, it's best served by a comment in that thread.
The problem is that when threads get to be sufficiently old, almost nobody's going to see any comment put there, but if a change isn't sufficiently significant, a fully-fledged new thread will be seen as a double-post. It's an edge case of sorts for the current MeFi model, and an issue worth discussing/addressing.

I'm just glad Mr Sinatra posted the link to the new stuff. I laughed, I cried, I wet my pants. It was much better than CATS.
I'm serious. Thanks.

Holy cow! You you are like so fucking right!!! I should have GYWO bookmarked so that I can go there every fucking day and see if page three magically freakin' appears!!!
And if it does I could not tell anyone!!! That would show those fucking dumbasses. They aren't smart like us huh? Otherwise they'd have it "bookmarked" and they could go there every day and check like us huh?
Oh my fucking God that is a good idea!!!

I do not think it would be appropriate to post a new front page link to every new Tourist Guy picture or Baby Pirate that comes along. I also feel that this is not worthy, either, unless there's something more than just the fact that there are more of them.
Where does it go, then, you ask? Post a comment to the original thread (some people will see it with the recent comments view) or your personal website.
Of course, if you posted it to Mefi's front page, I would never know, so have at it.

elvissinatra, whatever you do, there will be some low numbered high dudgeoned sorts to morally one up you on how things are done with sarcastic comments about bookmarks, etc, like you have all the time in the world to scroll back to a bazillion minutes ago or find it in ERROR, er, Search, and if they don't have any patronizing comments to bestow, they can crack in jokes like teenagers and you don't get them ,do you?!
Neener, neener, neener... You'll never be as cool as them.

but I have little patience for those who don't pay others enough respect
Your point is taken, I am in a bad mood. I will try to filter my venom through the gauze of good manners from now on...
This is something that I notice over and over , 'though--that people come in various moods and react according to undertones of other people in often bad moods and miss the overt 'conscious' intentional tone of any given thought.
But then there is that whole tacit dimension, like Polanyi wrote of, the roll of eyes in real time or a certain shared language in an overcrowded space where everyone is marking territory like dogs on speed. A silent or oblique way of spraying the shrubbery that's about spraying the shrubbery. It can get like a bunch of drowning well diggers in a cave in, climbing over each other to bet to air.
And huffiness can breed huffiness not unlike that old Walt Disney Your Friend The Atom series where a chain reaction was demonstrated by tossing a ping pong ball onto a ping pong table covered with armed mousetraps loaded with ping pong balls by the hundreds. Toss one ball and poppoppoppopoppoppoppop
I post in haste and regret at leisure. But not in a vacuum...
