Now xml-rpc compliant November 4, 2001 9:09 PM Subscribe
MetaFilter now conforms with the new Weblogs.com xml-rpc interface. I used this xml-rpc client/server for Coldfusion to wrap a simple request/response sent to weblogs.com whenever a new thread is made at MetaFilter.com.
stunning. Nice one matt!

I don't get it, Matt. I've had Mefi on my tracker list for a long time, but all it does it put it at the top "Metafilter" at the top of my list upon every update because there are always new threads. Are you saying that I can track individual threads??? If so, how?

it doesn't seem to even correspond to when new threads are posted. for example, weblogs.com is now reporting mefi was updated at 10:10am, but the most recent thread was posted at 9:22am.

It's not working exactly because MetaFilter is on Dave's special favorite bot visit list, even though I asked him to remove the site from that list. Since his bot is still revisiting MetaFilter, it reports false positives instead of relying on when I tell it to visit.
I also warned him that he would get negative feedback (like this and this which are both spot-on in my opinion) from doing such a thing but he told me he didn't care.

and presumably dave's special bot is always going to see a new metafilter because of new comments. i figured it might be something like that, but didn't put the clues together to realize it was dave doing it.
