Do coverage of ongoing dramatics between a single site owner and a single site user (and in neither case is the site referenced MeFi...) qualify as valid MeFi front page posts? Our survey SAYS... ?

since the topic (as I read it) is real-world application of free speech/censorship, I thought it had merit.

perhaps dave would have done well to start a discussion on a userland site, but I had no problem with the question he posed, and I took it as a genuine attempt to see what uninvolved parties might think. maybe it was self-aggrandization, I don't know, but I thought it was a valid topic for discussion.

I think dave has been wanting to hear for quite a long time that he has the right to throw grohol off his server, but he has bowed to (or been persuaded by) community consensus before now, so I think he really does want to do the right thing in this case.

in any case, matt joined in, he didn't seem to have a problem with it.

Good post, IMO.

Since there are probably quite a few MetaFilistines who use Manilla (including, until recently, myself), this is a pretty good post, I think.

I have no problem with it, considering how it was posted. It's of course in somewhat of a gray area, but Dave handled the post in an ok fashion, he came here asking for opinions and got them. It was an interesting discussion of rights of site owners wrt to discussions or free space offered by those owners.

Though I suspect he'll ignore all the good advice and just boot winerlog, which would be the worst choice possible (Dave's never been a big fan of bug reports offered for free to him).

I thought it was OK.

That's pretty substanceless, isn't it? I mean I thought Dave was trying to be a good "citizen" and did a good job framing it as a discussion question, not just a "can I cream Winderlog?" question. OK for MeFi, regardless of whatever you think about what Dave is or isn't about to do.

Never type in the dark. For the record, "Winderlog" is my own personal spelling of "Winerlog," in which the "d" is silent. (Yes, I do know it's not Dave "Winder." <sob>)
