Metatalktail Hour: Unrequited Ask
From Bklyn wants to know, "How about questions you have asked in ask-me, but never got an answer to? Either because no one knew or you didn't formulate your question right - and maybe later you found out the answer?" [more inside]
Closing Your Community Right: Jessamyn interviewed
A podcast where Jessamyn is interviewed by Patrick O'Keefe about the experiences around an online community (mlkshk) closing down and what happens afterwards. There is much on moderating, membership, community issues and service shuttering procedures within, as well as discussion of death/the passing of people, how this impacts on online communities and how moderators and community members deal with it. The page contains many MetaFilter-related links and a link to the transcript.
Impressive. Most impressive.
I was having feelings about cheese the other night and remembered that time I asked a seemingly hopeless question that you wonderful people were able to answer. It feels like it's been a while since we had a success stories round-up! Please take a moment to share the most impossible solved ID questions you've come across. The vaguer and less detail-rich the better! [more inside]
Humans can be drained of blood in 8.6s given adequate vacuuming systems
One of the nicer things about being a MeFite is exposure to new ideas and content we might never have otherwise encountered. I'm curious to know what life lessons and other bits of knowledge you've learned about the world thanks to MetaFilter. Please share!
What sorts of questions of good for AskMefi?
What would you say is the general culture of the AskMefi community? What sorts of questions get positive, supportive responses, and what sorts typically get negative responses? [more inside]
MeFi Bat Signal
Is there some sort of informal way that we can self-organize into a network of volunteers that can provide local assistance to AskMefites in need? Or maybe have the option for location information on AskMe questions so that we could receive alerts to local questions a la IRL? Or something? (Apologies in advance -- this is long, half-baked, inarticulate & rambly.) [more inside]

Thousands of moderators
Facebook has an open position for a Questions Community Manager. The text itself is pretty fascinating with superlatives like"anything you can dream up", "thousands of moderators" and "the full resources of Facebook at your disposal". I obviously thought about AskMe and Jessamyn, and she agreed it was an interesting Meta post.
Knowing that communities start from the ground up, I am especially interested in thoughts about how such a gigantic operation can be handled, if it can at all. [more inside]
Too many questions?
I'd like to talk a little bit about using AskMeFi but not MetaFilter. [more inside]
What is AskMe best at?
Which topics is AskMetafilter best at answering? I'm not referring to specific questions for which you've received the most helpful response; rather I'm wondering if people find that (for example) computer hardware questions receive more accurate and helpful answers than medical questions, or that AskMe is particularly bad at answering another type of question. [more inside]
Nothing and Nthing
Whence Nthing? Isn't the word "seconding" meant to include multiple votes of support? Is this something peculiar to Ask Metafilter?
MetaFilter in looooove
Ain't we a whole bunch of sweet romantics, eh?
Hey new user! Ask Metafilter is part of a larger site, with history and community!
With AskMe getting lots of press (as in here) as a unit seperate from Metafilter (meaning, blue, grey, white, mauve, etc.), there should really be a message on ask letting the droves of new users know that it is a part of a larger community, with other features, a resource for post discussion and discourse, and a user base not completely dedicated to the green. People who enter through Angel Island should know New York exists. /metaphor)
Is this sweet or what? Well? Is it?
This is the cutest AskMe question and final answer in a while. Or, it's the saddest. I can't decide. Or maybe it's the result of split personality.
:)
Seriously... you guys rock. Just sayin' thanks.
The kindness of MeFi.
Never mind "best of the web," this thread is surely the best of MetaFilter.
Deleted AskMe trying to identify a painting via email
Earlier on AskMefi there was a question from "siahny" asking to identify a painting via email. I've got the picture (which is a Word document). The thread seems to be deleted, but should I post it up anyway? She really does want the painting identified...
Do you guys have JOBS?!
Can this thread become the example of how not to use AskMe?

(It's also an example of why hit-and-run doesn't work. I know there are people who join purely for AskMe, but that still feels sleazy: most users have certain good faith assumptions, and it feels like they're being taken advantage of by these mongs.)

How to say "thanks Ask MetaFilter"?

I recently asked a question and and amazed with the help I recieved. Should I just smile, post in the thread (but who would see it?) or email individual posters? Or just shut up?

Men, women, and relationships
What are some good community sites, other than AskMetafilter, where people can intiate discussions on topics like this one? It's a good question in a bad place, IMO.
