Some kind of weird AskMe troll?
This AskMe question was posted by "fairlysober", and a pointed response was posted by "prettydrunk". Both joined in the last couple of weeks and only have a 5 posts/comments between the two of them. How did prettydrunk happen upon his "extremely close friend of 10+ years" on a MeFi when he/she has no other method of getting in contact? Coincidence? Trolling? This doesn't pass the smell test.

Do callouts have a shelf-life?
I'll probably regret it, but I guess this is a callout. [more inside]

Third Time's A Charm For Hero?
Hero Joy Nightingale: we posted on the blue about her, I posted on the green about her, but she seems to have left no trace for years...anyone want to help find out what happened?
...if it hadn't been for you meddling kids
This stinks (and I know it was deleted), rinkjustice is supposedly raydexter's son. Although that might be true, the posting history in ask.me looks like ray is sockpuppet from the way the dates line up for the questions asked. They both have the same homepage in their profiles, and their answers and writing style line up as well. From his question in ask.me about his dad's comic promotion, it shows that he is involved in the success of the comic.
These totally cannot be the same person
When did the INS (DHS? ICE?) recognize the right of 21 year old virgin boys to marry British men and get them green cards?
Totally sweet detectivation
Totally sweet detectivation that makes me feel good. mr_crash_davis deserves a plate of hot wings.
eBay scammer identified
can anyone clarify what's happening here? seems like some mefi detective work might either shed some light on things, or clear the poster's name; i'm not sure browbeating him with false dichotomies is working.
terrier of truth on the pantleg of bullshit
Better than newsfilter : Metafilter as a terrier of truth on the pantleg of bullshit ? - I noticed, all of a sudden, an emerging posting trend which seems to me far healthier than reflexive newsfilterism - as shown in these six threads.
Meta News Verification Service
I thought that link about the internet enabled loo smelled funny. It turned out to be one of those many internet enabled hoaxes. People's general gullibility (including my own) makes me wonder about the viability of a Meta-news service like the proposed "MoJo."

MeFi Detectives go Pro
I have an idea for a new addition to the MeFi family of products... MoJo!
MetaonlineJournalism - A subsection of MetaFilter (like MetaTalk) where stories or rumors that need further investigation, research, or verification are actively worked on by webloggers, ideally working together to determine the truth of the matter.
This, I think, is increasingly important, since MeFi posts fade out a lot quicker than they used to, due to posting frequency. MetaOnlineJournalism posts might be around long enough to determine the truth of the matter, and would be presented in an environment that would ideally be far more about collaborative reporting, and far less about flaming.
I want my MoJo!

The Scooby Doo gang rides again
The Scooby Doo gang rides again: David Cassel mentions MetaFilter's crack investigative skills (and quotes headspace) in a piece about Coincidence Design.
Vigilante detective risks
An immediate wee-small-hours-of-the-morning reaction to the Kaycee threads (garment?): I think that a non-commercial site for the communal sharing of information and opinions is a great thing, in fact that MeFi is reason enough for the web to exist. I was also hooked by the Kaycee saga. But there was an element of it that made me uneasy, a feeling that in the wrong situation the community detective work could get into a tell-on-your-neighbors Stasi/McCarthyite area. I don't think this was the case here, and I appreciate that MeFi by and large still has a moderate (and, yeah, liberal) tone, that I share. I don't think the number of users should be limited. I just see the investigative power of thousands of people, and that that could be used to the wrong ends. I'm not suggesting any changes, but wanted to bring this up during this strange afterglow period.
