The Scooby Doo gang rides again: David Cassel mentions MetaFilter's crack investigative skills (and quotes headspace) in a piece about Coincidence Design.

Quoting headspace without attribution was odd. I hope Cassel is going to attribute better in the book he's writing about Internet hoaxes.

What, skallas, actually click more than twice? That's an awful lot to ask, don't you think? Besides, anything you say on the Internet has no copyright. It's just a big, vast world of fair use!

Huh. I seem to have put on my sarcasm goggles early this morning.

I just got a copy of last weekend's Guardian (UK) sunday magazine insert from their paper, and they put metafilter on the year's best websites list. They put a funny quote from a poster that I swear I read on this site (they lumped mefi with slashdot and plastic, so the quote could have come from there, but it wasn't attributed to anyone).

Cassel told me at least one more reference to metafilter was taken out because the article is destined for print, and it's not cool to have lots of URLs in printed stories. Perhaps the paragraph that was axed had an attribution?

So, what was the funny quote?

It was in reference to a thread about a letter to Osama Bin Laden's men, and the quip was "Big thanks to Omar for putting up the sign which says there is no 'I' in team"

I could have sworn I read that here, but couldn't find it in a mefi search.

that's that email that was going around.

for some reason I thought it showed up here, too.

Okay. I'm stumped. For God's sake, whatever you do: do not try to search for the words "bin Laden" or "letter."

It's from the Letter From Osama

Oh I mean it's in the letter, but can't find it at MeFi either, for some reason I thought I read it here too.
