MTU values still causing problems?

MeFi (and sub-domains) are still blocked to people with the wrong MTU settings using OS X (previously). Right now I can't access any of the sites following a complete reset of my router last night. Safari halts on *.metafilter.com when the status bar says, "... Completed 3 of 4 items". This happens on both my computers connected to the router. I'm currently accessing via www.siteglove.com, an anonymous proxy. To be honest, I'm not sure if the MTU value is causing the problem, but there's clearly something wrong. Admins: Please look at the comment on the previous threads about firewalls blocking network discovery traffic (from user eriko). That's your cure. Windows computers work around this automatically. Other computers don't, unless the user tweaks!

MTU settings = No Metafilter

Admins: Metafilter is blocked for people with incorrect MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) settings on their router/computer(s). See this thread. I had this problem for several weeks, during which Metafilter's banner would load, but nothing else. Something needs to be tweaked on either the Metafilter server, or the Metafilter routing system (firewall settings?). My router was set to the default values for my ISP when this happened (BT Broadband in the UK). In other words, this isn't caused by people tweaking their settings—some ISPs are effectively incompatible with Metafilter in its current setup.
