Inspired by stuff like the "Quarantine Cooking" article by mefi's own beijingbrown and the article about Japanese "drinking online" and Chinese "cloud raves," I'm wondering if we could do some fun social stuff as a group that would make things less lonely. There is much on moderating, membership, community issues and service shuttering procedures within, as well as discussion of death/the passing of people, how this impacts on online communities and how moderators and community members deal with it. Shirky on Internet Groups: All groups of any integrity have a constitution. The constitution is always partly formal and partly informal. At the very least, the formal part is what's substantiated in code -- "the software works this way."
Article about groups (including Metafilter) on the internet. Quite Interesting.

Jorn's proto-rant goes right to the heart of online community dynamics, though I'd offer that it's the intelligent cruel folks who are the most dangerous. I'm tempted to see the caring/cruel split in terms of the political left and right, though I know that's not at all fair. What do you think, is there any wisdom in Jorn's words? And what does all this have to do with James Joyce?
