It's a big snowball
I think we need a political sub-site, dudes, the election threads must be a nightmare to mod, at least if all this stuff was sequestered into one area you could have a new thread every day and break out discussions of specific topics.
I was waiting for the current thread to load and thinking about hey, after tuesday all this will slow down, and then I thought....what if it doesn't?
Cultivating Community
What do y'all think about adding another sub-site, one explicitly oriented to fostering community? I envision a sub-site where people could post significant personal news, achievements or challenges without the framing of an AskMe: these are announcements, not questions, e.g., I lost 20 lbs or had a baby or converted the garage into a bedroom. Has "news.metafilter.com" ever been considered?
Has MetaFilter ever considered or discussed the idea of having a News subsite? A MetaNews sub for posting things that might otherwise be considered Newsfilter, and therefore Detestable Front Page Clutter? [more inside]
Like browsing MeFi in a shrouded theater
A lot of people have complained about FanFare's professional white background. Well, DRUNK WITH POWER after somehow kludging together a successful CSS theme for /r/MetaFilter with zero experience, I decided to try my hand at giving our new subsite a makeover, too -- the layout is fine, but that glaring white is painful to read in a darkened teevee room. Inspired by the original soothing dark blue color scheme from film/TV review aggregator Metacritic (which discarded it for an unpopular redesign years ago), I put together a complete FanFare theme (screenshot*) that adjusts not just the background and text, but stuff like visited links, link hovering, the pop-up video button and lightbox, posting page notes, live preview area, and the sidebar and Deck ad box. You can install it in Firefox (with Greasemonkey or Stylish), Chrome (with Stylish or Blank Canvas Script Handler), and jailbroken iOS (with Userscript Loader, using this URL) -- it's tested and working properly on all three. Metafilter et al Rocks! and yet.. Pony request for short-story subsite
So Metafilter right now consists of *
Metafilter / MetaTalk- launched in 1999. Askmefi - launched in 2003. Projects - launched in 2005. Music - launched in 2006. Jobs - launched 2006. IRL - launched ??
Now I love, love, love, Meta and all associated sub-sites but I was wondering if perhaps a writing / short story sub-site (for original works) was also possible.?**
[*all dates taken from wikipedia]
[**apologies if this has already been discussed, I searched and couldn't find reference to a writing sub-site on MetaTalk] [more inside]

Pony request: Place to put unasked-for tips
Pony request: a place for random answers, or tips, that have no immediate questions, but might be useful to someone, sometime, somewhere. [more inside]
IRL is here!
Today we're showing off the first (very early, alpha if you will) version of the new events subsite for MetaFilter we call IRL. [more inside]
Very-trivial-but-just-noticed-this-usability-thing-so-I'm-throwing-it-out-there-as-a-pony-request.
I've just noticed that the text that I type into the search box beneath the links to sub-sites does not carry over when I browse from sub-site to sub-site. I know that Google (on FF 3.011) does this between its different sub-sites and I find it very useful because it eliminates the Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V keystrokes (or retyping for the less computer savvy) when you are using the same search terms between sub-sites.
10th anniversary longboat
How long do the posts on the 10th subsite stay open?
We'll build our house and chop our wood
Is there are gardening wiki, or do we have enough gardeners here to have a garden.metafilter.com?
My New Pony's name is Gigs!

Metafilter City Pages?
Metafilter city pages: How about creating a section on the site, or in the metafilter wiki, that is a guide to various cities across the world, using links to ask.mefi responses to give the information?
AskMe or MeTa?
Should requests for information regarding Metafilter be posted to AskMe or MeTalk?
Politics-only MeFi?
Let's make a new MeFi, just for politics. Perhaps it could be a chunky beige/brown.
Should we have a separate page for politics?
Would MetaFilter be improved by moving political discussions to their own community separate from the main page? I love politics, but I think these kinds of links breed like rabbits, and I sometimes wonder if I am contributing to the Free Republicazation of this site.
