While I'm a denizen of the NC mountains, I'm heading north to visit family that weekend. I don't know how many Delawarean mefies exist (at least one), but perhaps Newark's proximity to Philly will unleash a slew. I'm okay with meeting anywhere else, though, so if you have any suggestions...

...or you could come on down to Baltimore that night for our meetup.

Nah. baltimore is over an hour. I'll try and make it if I'm well. Philly represent.

I live in Newark so I'll be there. Iron Hill Brewery works for me.

You're killing me. I'm actually about an hour and a half south of Newark, and that's a holiday week-end, so traffic would be rough. More importantly, that'll be a big family week-end, with Mahaffies from all over heading for the beach for a family meet-up. Sorry! (Though it's cool to know that I'm not the only First-Stater around here.)

I'm amazed that the zip-code dealie on the profile page doesn't count any of the upstate Delaware residents as "near" me, but does count two folks in New Jersey (South Jersey, I guess that makes some sense).

amandaudoff: damn, wish I knew about that before I posted. I think Delaware/Philly posses ought to proceed, but in solidarity with the Free State Mefites. You'll have a shark, and we'll have a blue bunny (and maybe we could be wifi'd and could shout back-n-forth). Then
again, I'm toasty :)

Iron Hill Brewery sounds like a great place for a meetup. If any one needs directions from Philly or New Jersey, or information about the area, let me know - I'm within a short walk of the Brewery.

I could be convinced to come out--I love me some Iron Hill Brewery and I haven't been there in a good long while. (I've been back to lurking here for a couple of months; working up to commenting in the blue again.)

Is there a better place to park other than behind the Brewery? Every time I've been there there's never any parking and it's a PITA, driving around and waiting for someone to leave. (I live over in New Castle and don't go to Newark proper very often.)

I don't go into Iron Hill too often, but they have good food, and some very good beer.

Last week, parking wouldn't have been too bad. With students back in town, the population of the town has doubled.

The parking lot does get filled, but there are some other lots on mainstreet. When you come into town (map), check over on New Street to see if there are any empty spots. Otherwise, check on pay lot #4 (map) across the street, between Choate Street (a one way leading towards mainstreet) and Center Street. There's an entrance into the lot from Main Street, and one on Center Street.

Don't park in the big lot for the Newark Shopping Center (see the second map link above.) They like to tow people away who park in the lot, and walk off the lot towards the center of town.

Noah's ark sank so he had to build a Newark. DELAWARE.

Yeah, it's a wacky place for sure. I lived downtown on a number of fine streets (Choate, New, East and West Main) for aeons before retreating to western NC. And it would seem that Poe's curse is real; I keep coming back. This was a shot in the dark thing and it's cool that there are some interested folks. I'll have a blue bunny on the table.
