NYC mini meetup for a last minute traveler, anyone? I'm going to be in NY for a couple days next week & would love to meet any & all mefites for beers on Wednesday, September 21, 6ish at Max Fish. Bar suggestion thanks to Amberglow !
Eh.. it's totally pretentious on weekends, safe for sane folk on most weekdays though. Not meant to be a dig, Mr. Glow.
I mebbe there.

Would this be a good place for me to invite NYC Mefites to a book party on Thursday? My wife's novel just came out:
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 7:00PM: Join buzzed-about debut novelist Marcy Dermansky and friends to celebrate the publication of TWINS (William Morrow, September 2005), a fabulously black comedy about twin sisters, Chloe and Sue, and their attempts to make it to eighteen in wealthy suburbia. Twins and friends who come dressed alike are eligible to win twin-themed prizes, and absolutely everyone is invited to join the fun! At Bluestockings, 172 Allen Street (between Stanton and Rivington), on the Lower East Side. For more, please visit http://marcydermansky.com.
I'll try to make it on Wednesday--Max Fish is fun.

Only JonMC will recognize me. Otherwise, I will pretend I'm someone else.

I don't suppose anyone will still be around at 10pm? That's about the earliest I can get there, but I'll come if folks'll still be there.

cool, unpretentious place
Max Fish? LOL. Though pretty much any bar qualifies as cool at 6. And they serve Red Stripe (a holdover from before Red Stripe became trendy). I'll probably wander over.

If long-time lurkers are welcome, I'll be there to represent (but probably from the far end of the bar).

I will try to be there. Driving into the city is always a pain in the ass, but to drink and hang with the merry nyc mefi crew I will make the trip.

Oddly, I too post rarely. Went to my first meetup a couple months ago. It was all good.

please tell me someone got a picture of that clown.
dorian - you couldn't handle that thing - it'd be all "hey dorian, why do you ride a girls' bike? watch out! you can't ride this thing, white boy. Where'd you learn to ride, from Stephen Hawking!? Why don't you steer under that dump truck and put us both out of our misery?! You're useless!"
...and there's nothing you could do about it.
