Don't call it that.

"The OC" differentiates it from the seven or eight other Orange Counties there are in the USA.

but I was being ironic.

Buddha: in which case the preferred term is "ironical" or "ironicious".

Though the use of the term does make for a good way to separate out tourists and recent arrivals for beatings. Just like nobody from California calls it "Cali". The only people I've heard use the term "Cali" were all from the East Coast.

Are you people actually going to have a meetup or just sit around moaning about nomenclature?

OMG will Seth and Marissa be there? Can't wait for the pix!

dersins The latter is far more entertaining for those outside the "OC."

ironical

An ironical is actually like a monocle, but it lets you see the world through the eyes of Donald Barthelme.

I will come from The 909, if you manage to get together more than a couple people

this noob will try and make it if we decide to have one.

Really? The only person I knew well who called it "Cali" was born in, raised in, and still lives in San Diego. So I thought it was a Californian name.

Maybe you should all get together to discuss this in person?

Are Ryan & Marissa gonna be there? What about Seth?
posted by Dreamghost at 6:51 PM on October 2, 2005

Nobody calls him Seth. It's The Sethster for everyone in the know.

Is everyone at this meetup going to be beautiful, drive large cars and have petty little sexual problems? Second, will there be pictures?

"ironicious"

I prefer to hip it up by writing it iron.icio.us.

If MeFiers from 90210 showed up, would it be like Jets and Sharks on the mean streets of West Side Story?

the way this thread is going I have a feeling there's a reason why there's never been an OC meetup, haha.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing Buddha. Comment at your own risk.

Also, growabrain: Viva la 909. I got out, but I have roots.

I'll attend an OC meetup.

My girlfriend is 27 and watches every episode of the OC. I think she watches it for the fights.

I am one of you (Tustin) but have been out of the country for over 10 years now. Can I ask a question? Was this name "the O.C." created for (and popularized by) the show (I haven't actually seen it yet), or did the name already exist. I never heard anyone attach the definite article before I left (1994).

Is this show more embarrassing than the bankruptcy thing?

I have a dozen cousins from Tustin and environs, and "The O.C." is a big old piece of fictional vernacular.

They say hi, by the way.

Yes! I live in Newport, and I would definitely be interested.

That's funny, the only people on the East Coast that I've heard talking about California only do so in the context of the sentence, "...and that's when I decided once and for all to get the hell out of..."

I kid of course.

Seeing my comment in the light of day ("LOL," "Viva la 909"), I feel duly embarrassed. I hope I didn't offend growabrain who has an amazing site.

By now it's likely only SoCal residents are checking this thread, so what do you think? Lets give this meetup some legs.

BuddhaInABucket, growabrain, curtm, SAC, anyone else? Weekends are good for me.

Let's think of some decent locations. I nominate Muldoons in Newport.
posted by BuddhaInABucket at 7:53 PM on October 3, 2005

i for one, would drive to this if people were properly assembled.

however, it wouldn't be a proper o.c. experience if it wasn't at some bland corporate restuarant like bj's or souplantation.
