Your pictures came out quite well Mr. Flash user. Mine were all dark because I didn't wanna flash the super bright dual-LEDs on everyone. So I'm not gonna bother uploading any.
The meetup was pretty well attended, sorry I had to leave early for another shindig.

It was nice meeting everyone. I was surprised to see only 3 familiar faces from meetups of yore.
Also, I just wanted to say that ThePinkSuperhero is a real life, genuine superhero. That's all.

Haha, glad you could read it, scarabic!
Here's the official attendance list I kept. Hope I didn't leave anyone out, but I probably did- there were quite a lot of there! If I mispell your name (or do the capitalization wrong), I apologize, but you probably wrote it down yourself, so it might be your own drunken fault.
ThePinkSuperhero, mullacc, dame, dorian, grumblebee (and lovely wife), correr, mdn, jawbreaker, sueinnyc, a dead quaker, PLUTOR (and lovely wife), O2B, jonmc, TRVARLAN, Lola_G (and sister!), stynxno, nomad, splatta, hellbient, riffola, Cunning_Linguist, onalark, a butt, bingo, NiceDonkey, moseh, naxosaxaur
I enjoyed meeting each and every one of you- you're all so interesting and nice, I could have talked to each of you for a whole evening.
(And thanks, riffola! :-D)

You NYC'ers need to pool together some funds to fly my camera out to photograph these women. By "my camera" I mean "to hell with the camera--I'm bringing myself", and by "need" I mean "Santa, I've been a good boy this year."
And by "good boy" I mean "very, very naughty boy who would like to further clarify the verb 'to photograph' as previously used."
I blame tonight's simian conspiracy for the fact that I'll regret this post when the morning returns my better judgment to me.

naow, that post is a piece of work one could be proud of. most of us have done worse. well, I have. a drunken dorian is 7.2x more annoying than a regular dorian (which is already fairly annoying)
-- hope we will see you over here sometime sooner or later.
sorry that I missed naxos again (probably by like 6 minutes) but it was great to meet everyone even if I can't put faces to most of the names.
too bad the PP-cute-cambodian-girl-gone-wrong thing did not show up tho.
I miss the jersey crowd, we should do one of those next.

This was, perhaps, the most awesome meetup that ever.. uh.. met up. I had a rockin' time, and my wife was totally flabbergasted by how great you people are. I was a little surprised my own self. Huge crowd, we took over just about the entire second floor of Revival. That was a great place to go, whoever suggested it.

I'm always surprised by meetup pics. I know that we're mostly in the same demographic, but I don't usually feel that we are, given the amount of bickering/diversity. Looking at the pics makes me actually feel what I know intellectually, which is that we're not nearly as diverse as the discussions make me think.
That, or maybe only a certain segment of us are the types that go to meetups...Hopefully that's the case.

I always enjoy looking through these, but this one was hard because I just knew that at some point - I didn't know when it would show up, but I knew it would - there was going to pop up on my monitor a close-up shot of jon's pasty white abdomen, bedecked with surgical scar.
Yep. I was right. (looks like a good time was had by all, though!)

Mrs. Grumblebee and I had a great time. Initially, I dragged her along. But in the end, it was I who got tired and pooped out (in my defense, I had to work all day Saturday and I have to fucking work today too!). She wanted to stay longer. It took a massive guilt trip on my part to get her to join me on the subway home.
It was a treat meeting all of you. But you're all so damn YOUNG. I felt like the old man at the party. (I'm about to turn 40 and I'm feeling sorry for myself.)
Lola_G, I've heard a great way to lose weight is to eat lots of candy! I think I'm going to go on that diet tonight.

Yes, but like an old man, I eschew modern culture and bitch about how much better things were back in the day (usually before I was born) and I talk endlessly about my ailments and operations. So I'm some kind of frightening teenager/old man hybrid.
and I must be stopped.

I'm not surprised, per se. It's just that what I know in my head and what I feel in my gut are different. In my head, we're all in our 20s and early thirties, and look like net geeks, and have a big ole diversity of thoughts and tastes. In my gut, we have this huge range of ages, appearances, looks, smells, and styles. There is just a gap between my head and my gut that surprises me. I certainly don't think that demographic similarity rules out intellectual diversity.
It's like death. Everybody knows that everyone is going to die, but still dealing with the death of a loved one is difficult. It's not like you're surprised that people die, or think that liking people makes them immortal, but head and guts sometimes work on different levels.
(Substitute puppies or rainbows or the vastness of space or something if the death example seems downer. It's not meant to be, but I've been watching a lot of 6 Feet Under, so it was the first example that came to mind)

Oh, and three people tonight met me and told me that they had thought I was a man. I found that funny.
They might be confusing you with PinkStainlessTail... but people had assumed I was a guy when I went to My First Meetup, too, so...
that truly was an overwhelming level of attendance though! Hardly had a chance to meet half of you guys, but it was nice to see the few familiar faces, and good to meet a few more folks.

I find the subway such a unique mix of public and private - only on certain lines do people really talk to one another (the A in brooklyn is often kinda loud, e.g.); on lots of lines everyone's in their own little world even when (perhaps because) they're pressed up right against each other. I remember thinking about this especially right after 9-11 because for a couple weeks then, everyone seemed to make eye contact in the subway and it seemed significant because normally that never happens. [/random pointless rambling]

Sometimes, when a train is leaving the station and being really noisy about it, I sing at the top of my lungs. I figure that nobody can hear me. And besides, it's fun to sing loudly in public.

This is particular evident in my numerous ceiling shots.
Jonmc: I know you really want to show off your ability to pee normally and that old bitty was a real see you next Tuesday but at that time of the evening the night was too young for that sort of debauchery. Had you caught me toward the end of the night I would have been insisting you do it.

Actually, it would be more truthful to say that on the plane home I burst into uncontrollable sleeping. I fell asleep before takeoff. Which turned out to be a smart move on my part, as the plane didn't actually leave the ground for another hour. Which wouldn't really be worth recounting, except that it goes with the rest of the story, which is this: there was massive fog in San Diego, and all the planes got diverted, and I got sent to Ontario (up near L.A., not in Canada, of course), where I was stuck on the airplane until 2:00 a.m., at which point I was allowed into the Ontario airport to try to sleep on its luxurious floors with airline-supplied pillows, blankets and animal crackers. I made it home just in time to shower and go to work.
But the meetup made all that inconvenience worthwhile, especially considering the fact that the New York MeFites are clearly HOTT!!! With two T's.

I am anxiously awaiting your pictures, nomad, as I am not in any of the currently posted pictures. I took exactly four pictures, but they're stuck in Utah right now. I'll try to rescue them.
I think the salacious photo mentioned way above may not actually exist. I was posing for a picture with a certain very cute boy MeFite who favored me with a kiss on the cheek, but I don't think I saw a flash go off. Which is probably good, because I'm sure I was blushing.

Tee hee! No wonder I had fun. I showed up outta nowhere, and everybody liked me and was nice to me! And my mom was worried about me, out all alone in the big, unfamiliar city . . . HA!
That reminds me, thanks Cunning_Linguist and bingo, for hailing me a cab.
Also, thanks Lola_G. Your timing is impeccable!
I guess I'll just have to move to Manhattan now, so I can make it to the next meetup.

I get my hair cut at a wonderful place in San Diego, where they give you a glass of wine, then a massage, and then they cut your hair. I love it. Getting the haircut is better than the haircut.

Gummi Bears, BAH! This morning I awoke to the smiling face of Mrs. G handing me a bag filled with Charleston Chew bars, M&Ms, Peanut Butter Cups and KitKats. AND a huge box of Crunchberries. I've been dieting forever and so I generally eat carrots, turkey burgers, protein bars and my stomach lining. But, as today is special (my 40th b-day!!!), I am breaking all the rules. I was at a conference all day, and I usually avoid the little candy dishes at all the trade booths, but not today -- today I ate more Hershey's minis than I've had in my entire life so far. Tonight we're ordering a giant pizza. Maybe two pizzas. And cheesy bread sticks. I plan on making myself very very very sick. I feel sick just READING this! Yay!

onalark! Yes, I struggled with the capitalization issue. But, may I point out, my name has a space in it. So then it's agreed -- I'll put a space in your name: ona lark, and you can not capitalize mine: nice donkey. Excellent. I'm glad that's settled. I totally remember you being there, but I don't remember what we talked about. Did we sing "Debra" together?
Okay, every time I hit "preview" someone else has posted! My response is getting way too long. Thanks, dorian. I think my hair would look good on you! Of course, you'd look good with anybody's hair. Or no hair. Then I could call you bald dorian. Sweet!
