Everytime I login to MeFi, I get the following Coldfusion error message: " Element CAPTCHATEXT is undefined in FORM". [mi]

I'm using FF 1.5.01, and the same error appears if I use either regular mode (with all my extensions) or safe mode. After getting the error, if I go back to MeFi I find that I'm now logged in. I've tried clearing cache and cookies, but the error remains.

Also (maybe related), my MeFi cookie never seems to be retained for more than an hour or two. After that, I always have to login again.

About the second thing - do you have "until they expire" picked from this drop down menu?

Same exact thing happens to me. Also FF 1.5.01. And I do have "until they expire" picked.

Never thought it was that big a deal, but as long as there's a thread open....

Yup, "until they expire" is set, and other cookies for other sites seem to last longer.

This happened to me when I joined (very recently), and I deleted all cookies from metafilter and now it all works fine. I'm using ff 1.0.7 still (I think?) but I have 'keep cookies: ask me every time'. I would wager that originally I had put metafilter in the 'keep until the end of session' list, and the second time round I would have clicked the more liberal 'allow'.

I imagine that if you change your settings from 'until they expire' to 'ask me every time' and allow metafilter, it will solve the problem.

I always get it from the normal logon screen, but never from the screen you get if the user/pass is wrong (with Opera... see also)...

I am a new member and i've been getting this ever time I log in (it was very confusing the first time I logged in.. took me a while to figure out i was, indeed, logged in!).

I am using firefox 1.5.0.1 and I have it set to accept all cookies during use, and then to delete all cookies everytime I quit.
