Chicago Meetup March 30, 2006 1:26 PM   Subscribe

Let's try this again. Anyone down for a Chicago meetup? My vote is again for Quenchers (corner of Fullerton and Western), but I'm down for Margies (or any other place) too.

Sure. When?
posted by eamondaly at 2:21 PM on March 30, 2006

If you were to wait until, say, mid may, I would go! I'll live maybe a mile from there soon. Right now I'm stuck in burb-hell, though, and unless the meetup is on a tremendously convenient date/time, I admittedly will probably not make the long trek.

Hey, I'll be there April 15 through 17. Easter meetup, anyone? Anyone?
posted by FlamingBore at 3:51 PM on March 30, 2006

The last Chicago meetup I attended was on Sept. 10th, 2001. I forgot all about it the next day.

So I'm definitely up for another one!

I'll attend. I'd prefer something mid-week just to avoid wall to wall peeps.

How about sometime between Apr 15 and 17? We could do it in May too, that way everybody's happy.

(My girlfriend left me about a month ago and I'm trying to find new ways / people to fill my time...)

1) i like meet-ups; 2) i'm out of town for easter; 3) i don't think i'd go to one at margie's; 4) mid-week is definitely more convenient; 5) i have nothing useful to add.

Yay Chicago meetup!

If we do one mid-week can we please have it somewhere downtown?
posted by SisterHavana at 8:15 AM on March 31, 2006

i think midweek, loopish is perfect. monk's (lake and wabash)? or we could brave the traders at rivers for a nice view of the river.
posted by crush-onastick at 8:36 AM on March 31, 2006

I'm up for something midweek loopish.
posted by goatdog at 9:31 AM on March 31, 2006

i don't know the loop too well, so whereever you think is fine by me. I'm fine with midweek.
posted by rbs at 12:15 PM on March 31, 2006

I would also like to attend a mid-week meetup. I vote for the Heartland Cafe, in Roger's Park, because it has outdoor seating and Chai Milkshakes.

Well, ok, I vote for it because it is next door to my apartment.

i can bring people from kalamazoo.

Baby_Balrog: awesome.

Rogers Park is kinda far for me, but ok.
posted by rbs at 5:03 PM on March 31, 2006

The Heartland has an open mic on Wednesday nights. They charge $3. It tends to start around 10, though, when the kitchen is already closed, so if you're looking for shakes earlier might be better.

I'm down for there or the loop or Quenchers, all are pretty convenient for me. Depending on my busy-ness on the night decided. If I go, I'll drag along elr.
posted by ruby.aftermath at 5:10 PM on March 31, 2006

The Red Line Tap shares a kitchen with the Heartland and doesn't have a cover Wednesday nights, I think. That having been said, I suspect the Loop will be more convenient to more people, not being way the fuck up on the frigid northern reaches of the Red Line. Perhaps a secondary mini-Rogers-Park-meetup is in order?
posted by IshmaelGraves at 8:44 PM on March 31, 2006

right, i'm unlikely to make it up to rogers park any time soon, particularly in the middle of the week.
posted by crush-onastick at 6:03 AM on April 1, 2006

I think a Loop gathering is probably best, mid-week, right after work. I second the nomination for Monk's. It's right off the State & Lake el, and it's near most Loop jobs.

someone set a date
or create a wiki or something
posted by Baby_Balrog at 6:34 PM on April 1, 2006

It'd be cool if mefi had a calendar thing. It seems like there's a consensus for mid-week. I'd prefer something closer to the loop than the redline tap, especially something off the Blue.

OK, how about we meet at Monk's on Monday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m. - that way we accomodate those folks who are in town for Easter (who hopefully don't leave before then!) and we accomodate those who can only come after work. Cool?

These used to go up on the sidebar. How come they don't anymore?
posted by MeetMegan at 3:51 PM on April 2, 2006

Or, if you'd rather have it mid-week, Wednesday, April 19 at 6:00. Whatever.
posted by MeetMegan at 3:53 PM on April 2, 2006

my vote is for wednesday the 19th, but i will grdugingly show up monday the 16th, assuming my flight is not late and i'm not tired and crabby from being on the greyhound of the skies.
posted by crush-onastick at 5:50 PM on April 2, 2006

If we're meeting downtown, I'd like to throw my vote in for Cal's, since it looks like I've already been volunteered. I really don't take advantage of that place like I should.

Quencher's would be nice, because afterwards, like-minded individuals could go check out the band at the Mutiny for a Metalfilter Meetup.
posted by elr at 2:33 AM on April 3, 2006

I vote for Wednesday the 19th as well.
posted by Baby_Balrog at 11:31 AM on April 3, 2006

Wednesday is better for me, since I teach on Monday nights.
So, 19th at Monk's it is.
posted by rbs at 11:55 AM on April 3, 2006

p.s., if anyone wants to go to the Mutiny afterward, I'm down. Cause I live a block from there.

Can someone swing by the Billy Goat and let Gene know?
posted by eamondaly at 3:24 PM on April 4, 2006

I'm down with the 19th, but I'll be there late if we start at 6. I work in the 'burbs, so 7:30'd be the soonest I could get all the way downtown.
posted by me3dia at 11:28 AM on April 5, 2006

OK. It seems like Wednesday the 19th is the date...but where is the place? We have a few going around. I think Monk's is central and right off the el, plus there's tons of cheap late-afternoon parking around there, so it seems like a best of all possible worlds.
posted by MeetMegan at 11:57 AM on April 5, 2006

i concur with meetmegan.
posted by crush-onastick at 11:58 AM on April 5, 2006

yeah, people seem to want Monk's. I've never been there, so that's kinda cool. And the train thing is good in case I get, you know, hammered.
posted by rbs at 9:23 PM on April 5, 2006

Monk's will be fine for me. I'll probably park at the Midway orange line lot, so the right-off-the-el location works well for me. ;) I'll be there closer to 6.
posted by SisterHavana at 8:50 AM on April 6, 2006

Wow. Awesome! I'm in. If half of you show up, I'll crap myself with amazement. Bring cameras, paper and crayons. I'll bring the Depends.
posted by KevinSkomsvold at 1:28 PM on April 6, 2006

How will we know each other?
posted by MeetMegan at 2:12 PM on April 6, 2006

well, i suggest the first person there go and claim the "private room" at the front to the immediate right of the door and that we all look for one another there.

or, uh, we could all wear carnations in our teeth.
posted by crush-onastick at 3:13 PM on April 6, 2006

Someone can make a sign for the table. : )
posted by SisterHavana at 6:35 AM on April 7, 2006

Look for the table with the most cameras.

(I'll show up in my Dingle shirt, in honor of the MeCha.)
