San Francisco Meetup August 29, 2006 8:50 PM   Subscribe

I'd like to (help) organize an SF (California) meet up. Email me at ccenter@las-elc.org -- or comment away re preferences, past venues, etc.

I would love to. Just moved to Berkeley myself and I don't know many people in the area yet.

I might be interested if it were somewhere other than a booze hole.

How 'bout a food hole that serves booze? Will that do?
posted by small_ruminant at 4:18 PM on August 30, 2006

I'd be all about that! Food > booze.

Food is good.

My interest is piqued.

Mmmmmm. Food. (Since I'm still sad about not finding people at Zeitgeist last time, can we have a biiiig blue and yellow sign this time around?)

I like Zeitgeist. I would make a big sign. :) It's sort of a "beer hole," though, with a grill for hamburgers, etc. There's also 21st Amendment (good on non-ballgame nights, has good pizza and fries) at 2nd & Bryant. The Chieftain at 5th & Howard is also good, has some food (including, as I recall, excellent french fries as well).

We should totally do a meetup at Gary Danko.
posted by trevyn at 2:16 AM on September 1, 2006

Joke? Gary Danko looks good, but a wee pricey -- $61 for "three courses," $89 for five. Perhaps we could get a grant.

what about dim sum? (dim sum =day time, probably) Or tapas? Is there such thing as an affordable tapas place?

How about Zebulon?

BART access, inexpensive (by SF standards anyway), drinks available. I hear the food's not bad, but I haven't ever been there.

Has anyone been to Esperpento in the Mission? Is it worth considering?
posted by small_ruminant at 6:14 PM on September 1, 2006

Zebulon's good. Also The Rite (Right?) Spot on (I think) Folsom & 17th. I've had mixed experiences at Esperpento ...
posted by ClaudiaCenter at 8:08 PM on September 1, 2006

I liked Esperpento a lot. Picaro on 16th is also good and cheapish.

I love Zeitgeist, but honestly I don't feel very 'at home' there, nor would I expect people who don't like booze holes to feel at home.

Pick a date and a place and I'll try to show up.

I'm new to SF and to metafilter, so just tell me when and where and I'll definitely try to show up.

I would love a weekend Dim Sum brunch meetup.
posted by Rash at 8:50 AM on September 8, 2006

I'm always up for dim sum, too.
posted by small_ruminant at 9:55 AM on September 8, 2006

Need a date. And by that, I mean both "please pick a date" and "I need a date."

How about sunday, sept 24th at 7 PM? Somewhere with eats and drinks and accessible by public transit. Yancy's was fun a while ago (you can bring food in there, and 9th and Irving is a good place to get all sorts of foods).
posted by purplefiber at 11:16 AM on September 16, 2006

Hey, Sunday would actually work well for me. but I guess the chances of this working out are slim-to-none at this point.

Since this post is almost a month old, I suggest it be killed and a new post started. I think it's not getting any attention anymore.

Also, ClaudiaCenter, if you're going to take another run at it, I suggest more of a declaration than an inquiry, since this one never resolved.
