Vegas Wedding/Meetup Update [mi]
apparently, the chapel streams weddings to the night live as they happen. I'll make sure somebody links.

I'm looking at you, Los Angeles mefites.
And for god's sake, if you do it, do it right: rent a red convertible, overinflate the shit out of the tires, and try to time your dosage so that things kick in right as you get past Barstow.

Is there a way to capture the video stream and post it? I'm going to be partying on a schooner that night but would love to see this momentous occasion.

CL, you'd have to check with the Graceland Chapel people for details. I'm not a streaming video expert.
davy, no, quonsar and me are not getting married. But we'll always have Sheboygan.
(also, to all the people, who've helped out like gaspode, thepinksuperhero, Bligh, and the rest, not to mention the entire NYC MeFiCha Drinkin' Posse, and simply everyone else who's shown so much enthusiasm for this wedding: thank you. It really means a lot)

To save some frustration and the slamming of Graceland's site on Saturday I offer this info -I was just at a friend's wedding at this chapel earlier in the month and I don't believe the video will be streamed live. At some point after the wedding (days? hours? I'm not sure) folks will be able to go here and enter the bride and groom's info (real names and wedding date) and watch the video. You'll need Windows Media Player.

I will, however, drinkaseveral toast(s) to the newlyweds.

get-well-soon wishes to her crash. but I couldn't avoid smiling at your "only 7-8- hours" comment -- it's so very true that for Europeans 100 miles are a very long drive, and for Americans 100 years are a very long time

I'd really love to be there, 'cause I actually will be in North America for the first time since 2002 (arriving in Vancouver on Saturday morning), but I just can't do it, I don't think. And I've never been to Vegas.
Best wishes to the happy couple, though, and I'll definitely be raising a few (in relative proximity) in your honour.

If my old buddy Craig -- who I'm staying with in Van and haven't seen in a decade since our swashbuckling Mexico days, and who is considerably more madcap than even I -- is up for it, don't count me out entirely.
And he's usually up for pretty much anything. So we'll see.

"Hey, folks, any hints on what to wear?"
I, frankly, don't have anything appropriate to wear, formal wedding or ironic Elvis either one, and I worried about it for a day and then decided to just try to pick out something a bit nicer than otherwise. That's about the best I can do.
I'm flying out at 3:30PM today (Thu) and I so shouldn't be up now. My whole sleeping schedule got inverted two days ago. I'm going to try to stay up from now until then. Sigh. I get very anxious nowadays before I go out of town for something. I can't ever get packed or ready ahead of time and then then when the night before comes around, I get all messed-up on my sleeping schedule and so everything works out to be last minute and I'm all stressed and thinking, hey, maybe I just shouldn't go. It's such a pain in the ass.
But I'm so excited about going. I'm really, really, really excited about meeting jonmc and scarabic, especially, and everyone else. It's all about the meetup and wedding for me, I'm not that interested in Vegas itself (I've never been before). I know a lot of other people are going perhaps mostly because of Vegas. Or at least that a big part of it. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do. I plan to try playing blackjack. I've never gambled before, at all.
I'm real nervous about getting around and pain and fatigue. At someone's suggestion, I looked into and eventually decided to rent a little disabled person's electric scooter thingie. I have no idea how that's going to turn out. Am I going to take the thing apart and put it into the trunk of the rental car and then pull it out and put it together whenever I go anywhere, or what? And I'm really self-conscious about this stuff, it's hard enough for me to use a cane.
Sorry, I'm babbling.

Oh god, now I have to go, just so I can drink a bottle of bourbon, dose myself with dangerous chemicals, and steal politely ask to borrow EB's electric scooter for a triumphal ride down the middle of the strip.
Man, I gotta talk to my buddy in Vancouver about a road trip or something.

Almost. I arrive in Vancouver lunchtime Saturday, and my funds are limited, and given that I only have about 14 days in-country and an awful lot of friends and family to see, and plans already made, it'd be pretty hard.
But, like I said, my buddy Craig, with whom I'm staying in Vancouver, is a complete madman with an almost supernatural skill for making the seemingly-impossible happen (and he still owes me some money from way back when), so we'll see. Unlikely, but not impossible.

This is the friend I wrote about here (I called him Greg, in a pointless attempt to conceal the names of the uninnocent), by the way, so you can see that an impromptu trip to Vegas wouldn't be entirely out of character for the two of us.

There's still some others who should be coming. I'm looking at you, Los Angeles mefites. It's not far.
This is really shaping up to be an historic meetup in several respects, but hopefully especially in FUN. I'm really excited and looking forward to meeting everyone.
There are two hotels at which a people have clustered: Barbary Coast and Gold Coast. It has been suggested that informal meetups be held each happy hour at the Barbary Coast main bar.
If you're someone who comes at the last minute, you can hook up with the rest of us by possibly finding someone at the Barbary Coast bar during happy hour, or leaving a message for me (Keith Ellis) at the Barbary Coast1, or, of course, showing up at the lovely couple's wedding Saturday night at the Graceland Chapel, 9:30PM.
A number of us, including myself, will be there through an extended weekend, Thursday through Monday.
1. If you know anyone else's full name who is staying there, you can of course ask for them.
