Los Angeles meetup reminder. This Friday (the 22nd), 7:00 PM at the Sportsmen's Lodge, 12825 Ventura Blvd, Studio City.

Bring cameras, be hot. I'll be there, scody & maryh & speicus & growabrain & wendell & eyeballkid & foureyedgirl & godknowswhoelese, you guys be there too. We'll be sportsmen together, it'll be awesome, and we'll raise a pint to jonmc & pips, or if we raise too many pints to them, we'll hop in our cars & drive to vegas to crash their wedding.

Damn. I'm sorry I missed the original post. I claim extenuating circumstances, as that was the day my daughter fractured her skull and had a very exciting ambulance ride to the hospital. You don't know me (I'm godknowswhoelse, nice to meet you), but I would have had fun meeting some other (more loquatious) mefites. Coulda totally brought a camera and been hot. And worn glasses.

Also, PUIs are probably a bad idea.

I'll be there, but no way will I "be hot." Maybe I'll take a shower beforehand, as I wish not to offend, but otherwise I'm sticking to my Lebowskian code of sartorial inelegance. It's the Valley, dammit!

nice try, naxosaxur. Just cause I bought you drinks that one time, and we made out a little doesn't mean I do that at EVERY meetup. It was my first time in new york, and I made some mistakes, you don't need to constantly bring it up!

Sportsman's Lodge? The Sportsman's Freaking Lodge? (to steal a line from Randy Newman) I LOVE IT! As a kid growing up in The Valley I attended Boy Scout Awards Dinners there! One of my best personal anecdotes happened party there and partly at Windsor Castle in Jolly Old England! If you had done this 3 years ago, I could've gotten there on a half-pint of gas! Now that I have moved up the coast to the edge of the radiation footprint of Diablo Canyon, it's about a 2:40:00 trip each way with optimum traffic.

Let me just say Sportsman's Lodge is old-school-kitchy-retro-cool and I would love to attend, and dang it, I'M GONNA TRY. Please note that I had already made some efforts toward becoming a surprise guest at the Vegas meetup (a 6:50:00 drive), but ruled it out less than 24 hours ago. (I believe that space kitty & the_bone were attempting to hitch a ride there for this weekend) If my feet or Ford should fail me now and I am unable to attend, I will announce it here.

I am gonna be in so much trouble with jonson... sorry, not my feet or my Ford but a body part that doesn't start with 'f' is holding me back. It's better this way: you don't want to have the first MeFi meetup with a special guest appearance by the LA paramedics, would you? (Although it might be interesting to see if Gage & DeSoto are still on active duty... damn, I'm old AND weak)

But specius, I am sick AND 160 miles away. As much as I would like to spread the lungrot to the populations of Santa Maria and Santa Barbara on the way, it doesn't make it any easier. I'm going to open a thread at MeCha so you attendees can comment on how much fun it is and make me feel even crappier.

What a fabulous evening we just had, crashing the Bass Family Reunion, complete with ballroom dancing to "Superfreak"! Truly, a meetup like no other. Pictures, I feel certain, will follow shortly.

Nothing sweated (except for a low-grade fever); just keeping my mind off my coughing... and you know hocking up a lung in the middle of the dance floor would've been a downer... I expect at least one very snarky shoutout among the pictures.
