I'd try to make it.

Yes...

Not being familiar with that area, is this any different than this semi-planned meetup for the following week? :) (Another thread for the same meetup is here)

cyrus: it'd be considerably further south, much closer to San Jose. I'm planning to attend the SF one, but (and I suspect this holds for most of us who live on the Peninsula) it's kind of a pain in the ass to get up and back from here to San Francisco.

Basically, the distance difference is about 20 or 30 miles, but it's a pretty significant 20 or 30 miles in terms of ease of access.

For example, if I want to make it up to San Francisco for something that starts at 7:00, the smart money says leave around 5:00 or risk being late.

That's what I figured, but wanted to make sure. For some reason I thought "the peninsula" was quite a bit smaller than it apparently is (just nosed around Google Maps a bit). So, my apologies :)

IMO it's a major pain in the ass except on weekends (which for whatever reason seems unpopular for meetups).

Now the question's where -- and frankly, I'm at a loss. Seems like the requirements are informal, with both food and alcohol available, non-ethnic, and with variable seating, but not too crowded on a Friday evening. Location: Santa Clara / Sunnyvale / Cupertino would be central. Maybe somewhere on Murphy Ave? Or the Duke of Edinburgh in Cupertino Village?

I live in Campbell, so SF is a pure pain in the ass to get to. I'd be up for a closer one, but I don't really have a clue where a good place is to have it around here.

If people are willing to come up to Mountain View, I can make a few recommendations: I'm not as familiar with Sunnyvale and environs.

From what I understand, the main criteria are "not so noisy that we're screaming into each others' ears" and "good nosh". Maybe one of us should post to chowhound and ask for recommendations?

Since you called the meetup, scrump, I think it's up to you to propose a location, which we'll then discuss.

Mountain View's a good idea. I say this not only for selfish reasons, but also because anything on or near Castro St. is an easy stroll from the train, to the benefit of any urbanites or other carless people who might be tempted to show up.

Wonder if there's any chance it'll be warm enough to sit outside. My dog could use a social outing.

I'll scout some locations and get back to everyone.

For lack of any more interesting suggestions, how about Tied House on Villa in Mountain View? It's a default after-work brewpub, but it easily accommodates unpredictably sized groups and, if I recall correctly, the sound isn't too deafening.

You know what sucks? Being sick for a week.

Anyway, I totally fell down on the job on this one, basically because I've been flat on my rear end from the flu. As I'm the one who called it, I'd say it's not happening, unless there's some super-secret plan to do it of which I've been unaware.

I would like to do this, and I think Tied House is a good idea: date suggestions? Next week is the SF meetup, and then we're veering close to the Thanksgiving holiday, but I'm open to the week after next.

Well, I'm glad this didn't happen since I didn't hear about it until now...

I'll be watching the thread for activity and hope to hear of something whenever people are available.
